Tommy wasn't sure how he'd gotten into this situation. Okay, so the kid was cute (and growing up far, far too fast) and maybe he felt bad about Wanda having to do the single parent thing. But babysitting his half-sister by way of magical reincarnation wasn't one of the things he'd ever planned on doing. (He'd already drawn the line at changing diapers.) He'd been planning to drop by, see how things were, maybe grab some food but that wasn't what had happened at all.
The thing was, kids were easy. They liked games and sports and television and when all else failed could be bribed with stuff. Toddlers were okay in small doses (and usually took regular naps). Babies, on the other hand, were a different story entirely. They ate, gurgled and crawled and were just generally fussy when they were awake. Eira was already at the state where she was crawling around and grabbing at things and she wasn't even that old. Like all babies she had her good moments and bad moments and oh, man, was she having a bad moment.
She just wouldn't stop crying. Tommy had attempted to distract her with brightly colored stuffed toys and was almost to the point of outright pleading with her. It didn't help that his not-quite-uncle was being a stubborn jerk about things.
"Look," Tommy said, exasperated. "Let's just call Wanda. She'll know what to do."
