His eyes lingered on the zip-drive as Doom spoke, and he remained quiet throughout the explanation, his expression shrewd. Finally, when he spoke, it was with quiet determination. "Yes. I very much understand what can happen when those with powers and abilities are left to run rampant. Certainly, a bit of good can be done, but all too quickly these so called "heroes" begin to think of themselves as above the law."
He snorted. "Even worse, their mere presence here brings about the arrival or birth of even worse villains. Batman is my prime example. I assume you are familiar of the menagerie of psychopaths that have sprung up in that cesspool since his arrival. But before that, there was only really the mob. Which, albeit dangerous, is nothing compared to the Joker. I put full blame of that lunatic's creation on Batman's shoulders."
"Not to mention property damage, accidental deaths, and the chaos that follow them." He gestured to the window with his water glass. "If any citizen wrecks a car out there, they are expected to pay for the damages. If a powered hero does it, he flies away without a care in the world. For too long, there has been no repercussion for these "people". And that needs to change." A dark look settled over his face.
"As for mutants, I'm intrigued by this X Gene that has flourished among them. It makes for fascinating science. However, like all genes, it's progress and mere presence need to be tracked more carefully, and identified earlier. Precautionary measures like this will help prevent Cable's future from happening."
And then another light snort. "Agreed. It's very easy to lose sight of how important the dollar is to the common man when you yourself have billions of it. I also have billions. But I know the value of all of them to everyone out there. That's why my company continues to succeed. Being noble is a trait that is sometimes useful and gratifying, certainly. But again, the common man is more swayed by the dollar, time and time again, than the idea of doing what is right for the sake of right."
