Re: Cypher and Open
Batgirl of course was at Doug's -- Cypher's -- side, wanting to provide a comforting presence as he adjusted to his circumstances, still clearly overwhelmed. It was strange for her to think that someone could be less comfortable in a party setting than she typically was, but then, this was an unusual party for her.
First, all the parties she'd attended so far -- a couple of Wayne functions, the Gotham high school prom Scarecrow had crashed, and Kristoff's party in Metropolis -- had been far more expensive-looking than this. And second, while she'd worn her Batgirl costume at two of those parties, this was the first time she'd been to a party in costume and hadn't immediately fought someone. Or multiple someones. In fact, most of the guests were fellow members of the costumed crimefighter community. As a result, she was far more at home in this setting than she'd expected to be.
Realizing that part of Doug's discomfort stemmed from the fact that he wasn't yet comfortable in his costumed persona -- or even that he'd developed one beyond some basic costume pieces -- Batgirl decided to use this as a teaching point. /Watch the way the heroes move,/ she told him with the touch of her hand and some subtle brushes against his arm. /Shoulders. Hips. Centering weight. Confidence. Carry yourself like them./ Her hands made subtle adjustments to his posture.
She touched his mask. /Cypher should carry himself like them. Become Cypher when you wear this./ She realized it probably looked to the other partygoers as if she were pawing all over him, but she wanted to make her point. /Leave Doug behind. The way Doug sees heroes is the way people should see Cypher. Understand?/
