It was late morning, but still earlier that Bruce usually got up on days when he managed to get some sleep the night before and didn't have to be into work the next day. There were some things, though, that were more important that sleep, and this happened to be one of them.
Even though Bruce made regular appearances at the graves of his parents - usually late at night after the gates were closed and dressed all in black - he made it a habit of coming in daylight every year on four occasions without fail: Mothers Day, Fathers Day, and each of their birthdays. Flowers and wreathes were sent on major holidays, the site was maintained throughout the year, and the small vase in front was kept filled with smaller bouquets by the groundskeeper, handsomely paid. If, occasionally, two roses appeared atop the monument at the feet of the large stone angel, no one asked who left them. The Waynes' had, after all, been popular figures in Gotham society.
There was only one anniversary he did not celebrate with them in daylight, but that was not today. Today, Bruce stood with his bouquet of lilies cradled in one arm, staring at the letters in his father's name as he told his parents about their grandson - the first of their bloodline, who had appeared so recently and so suddenly in his life. Bruce had never hid anything from them, whether because he hadn't as a child, or he didn't actually believe they were listening. He told them his joys and fears; his determinations, and doubts. He told them of Selina, and all that had passed with her. He told them of their city, the Avengers, his family -
He talked more than he'd talked in an entire week, until he'd run out of words to say. Then he put the flowers down, kissed two of his fingers and pressed them to the stone, and walked away.
His car waited for him outside, but he didn't get into it right away. It was quite, and he needed a moment to clear his head before returning home. There were so many things to think about these days.
