... the woman's voice seemed to float on the darkness. He didn't know the language but it felt familiar, comfortable. Then he was falling, gently at first them plummeting fast and faster through the air. The blackness gave way to harsh red light and pillars of fire and he landed on rough bedrock. Screams and suffering permeated the air. But no matter how fast or how far he ran there was no exit... There was never an exit. He turned, trying a different direction this time but suddenly there was a figure before him, blocking his path. More than a man, large, imposing and clad an outfit of deep, dark red...
Tommy jerked awake with a shout. He was breathing heavily and for a moment he didn't couldn't see anything besides the fire laden landscape. The scene eventually faded away (but not the emotions), replaced by the dingy bar. Tommy exhaled loudly, then let his head hang a moment, hands coming up to fist in his hair in frustration. "Damn it."
After a few long moments, he looked about the bar again. It was familiar enough. He'd been there a few times before the new "management" had taken it over. The cute bartender had explained the new rules and Tommy had had no objections to free beer.
He hadn't been planning on crashing though. He just hadn't really wanted to go home and he'd hoped some beer (okay a lot of beer) might have dulled his senses enough to get a decent night's sleep. But it looked like exhaustion had won out and the fucking creepy dream had happened anyway. He went to pull out his cell phone. What time was it anyway? Shouldn't this place be closed?
