"Please," he said as he shut the door behind her, "you're the guest of honor. How else do you think I got both Roy and Mia to agree to family dinner on a Friday night?"
Ollie was kidding. Mostly. In good humor, which was a good sign. He was wearing a long-sleeve v-neck pullover in what else, his trademark color, green. In his defense, green was a great color for him. The sweater was paired with khaki relaxed fit chinos. It looked good on him, and it certainly wasn't out of character, but the outfit was a bit more polished than Ollie normally wore. Especially for a family dinner at home on a Friday night. But he refused to admit that he'd dressed up to impress Dinah. He hadn't done that, no matter what his smartassed kids might think.
He didn't need to. He and Dinah were past that. Just like he was completely past the urge to check her out when she wasn't looking. Yep.
"Working," Ollie said, by way of explanation for Roy's absence. "Should be here soon. Mia's around. Somewhere. MIA!" The last part was shouted, for Mia's benefit. You're welcome, Mia.
"Everything's good for now," he continued, answering Dinah's other question, about helping with dinner. "Lian helped."
