Ollie shot Roy a bemused look as if to say, What the hell kind of preschool are you sending her to? but proceeded to give into Lian's request, because it was Lian and there wasn't anything she asked him to do that he didn't do.
He thought about it, and though he could have easily gone with a witty response, he remembered his time and teachings from the Ashram and thought of something better: "Our bodies are precious. They are our vehicles to awakening. Treat them with care."
"It's Buddhist," he explained to Lian, after he was done, so she'd understand. He motioned to his middle son with a spoon to put it in terms a four-year-old could understand. "Like Connor." Belatedly, he added, "Thank you for this food we are about to eat," to give it a more dinner-like context.
The rest of the family was staring at him. "What?" Ollie said, sounding mildly offended. "What were you expecting? In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night...? Jeez, it's like you people think I'm Peter Pan or something..."
