It had been too long since they'd all sat down and had dinner together as a family, Ollie reflected, looking at them all seated at the table; that was his fault. He'd been the one to drive both Roy and Dinah away through his actions. Though he and Roy had begun to heal their relationship starting two years ago, it was only now that they were back on the same coast that they seemed to be making real strides. The situation with Dinah was more complicated, as it always seemed to be, because things had been good, things had been damn near perfect—and he'd blown it because of an infatuation with Joanna. He'd cheated, and in the process, he'd hurt everyone. His family, Dinah, Joanna. Some days it still hurt to think of Joanna. Mostly, he tried not to think about her at all. It was better that way. He could focus on other things. Like moving forward.
Ollie had taken a spot at the head of the table, which left everyone else to sit where they wanted, though Lian, sitting in her booster seat, probably sat next to Roy so he could keep an eye on her. It was nice that they could all be together: Connor, Dinah, Lian, Mia, Oliver and Roy. Family, the way it was supposed to be. God, he'd missed it.
"Dig in, everyone," he said, once the chili was placed in the middle of the table and served to everyone.
