Good old Cardiff. It was never boring. He gave the city that. But just once, he'd love to just come to visit. Maybe see the sights. Hang out with Jack and finally get to meet his team on better terms. But that wasn't how his life worked. And to add to all of it, there was a man who wanted him and his TARDIS, and he was still in pain from the half regeneration. He could feel the energy still bubbling up inside him. He'd have to face the facts after this mess was done. But right now he had to focus. He had to make sure this man didn't get him or the TARDIS.
The voice coming from behind him shocked him, but only the woman's. Martha wasn't suppose to be there. She was suppose to be running around England with Mickey Smith. Being happy and married, and just being Martha. Why was she in Cardiff with Jack? He shook his head as a fresh wave of pain came over him. Time. He was in the wrong time. Figures he'd get that wrong on top of everything else happening.
"Nah, I'm just... cooking." He winced as the TARDIS beside him gave a very nasty shake, and the key in his pocket burned hotter. She was the one cooking, not him. And it was all his fault. He shoved his hand into his pocket and pulled out his trusty sonic screwdriver, and aim'd it at the man in front of him. "Back away from me and the TARDIS. I don't know who you are, but I know your type. And it isn't happening. I've gone through too much for too long."
He knew he could end this. Simply opening the TARDIS while it was fixing meant that the time vortex would be open. He could open the doors for just a second and let the man take in enough of the energy to drive him mad. But could he risk creating another Master? Not even to save himself. He couldn't do that. Not ever. He wasn't Rassilon. He wasn't like them. So he just raised the screwdriver, his finger on the button.
"One warning. Back away now." He wanted this to work. He needed this to work.
