The last person Clio had expected to see when she swung the door open was Hermes, but there he was on her doorstep, looking miserable. And while Hermes was her brother, and she took no joy in seeing the misery there, she didn't really feel like it was her problem. She rolled her eyes and started to close the door in her face, when he jammed his foot in it, and shoved it open.
Immediately, Clio drew back, suddenly terrified of what he was going to try. "Hermes-" she said, the first word they had spoken at all, and it was her begging him to stop- "Please don't-"
"I'm not going to hurt you!" Hermes hissed, now looking broken and annoyed. "I need someone to talk to! You used to listen to me and I need you to listen to me again."
Clio arched an eyebrow at him, and she folded her arms across her chest. "You messed that up yourself, Hermes."
"But that was ages ago! Clio, look. I tried to go to Artemis last time I needed to talk to someone, and she was awful and now she won't even tell me where she lives!" To that, Clio smirked a little. "I need you to be my sister again. Please?"
Clio hated that it was working. "Hermes- Can't you just go fuck someone to cheer up? Consensually, please. As a favour to me."
"I don't- I haven't had sex in a week," Hermes admitted, and Clio's jaw dropped. Okay, this - whatever it was - it was serious. "I haven't been home at all."
"Fuck. Fine. Go sit on my sofa in the lounge and I'll be there in a minute," she agreed. "But if you touch me at all, I'm going to tell Kratos and Bia, and I'm not responsible for what they do to you." She pointed to her sofa and was surprised again when Hermes just went to obey. Something was very wrong. Quickly, she shot off a message to the people she trusted to make sure she was safe, telling them to come over to save her of she didn't then text every twenty minutes, and then she headed into the living room.
"Alright, Hermes," she said, taking a seat far away from him. "What's going on?"
"It's Luna," Hermes groaned, and then he hid his face in his hands. "We had to fire her. She went behind my back and the specifics aren't important. Just- Since then, I don't want to be at home. I don't- I miss her, Clio."
Clio hadn't realised the extent of Hermes' feelings for Luna, but they were fairly apparent now. She had just assumed he was losing an acolyte when she heard, but it seemed pretty damn clear he was going through a breakup. "Oh, Hermes," she groaned. "You're in love with her."
"Of course I'm in love with her!" Hermes shot back. "She's- But she broke my heart."
Clio blew air out of her mouth roughly and then she rose from her couch to go sit beside Hermes. Slowly. Carefully, like she was handling a venomous snake, she eased Hermes closer until he was leaning against her. "I'll tell you what," she whispered, rocking him a little. "We're going to eat some ice cream, and watch something silly, and then I'll drive you home so Peitho can take care of you. Okay? I'm sorry you lost someone you loved, Hermes. But if you can't trust her, you didn't do anything wrong." Well. Not in firing her anyway. "Let me distract you."
Against her shoulder, all Hermes did was nod.
