Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:hermione, orestes

WHO: Hermione and Orestes
WHEN: Friday evening
WHERE: Oreste's place
WHAT: Hermione has complicated feelings about her lover boy but happy reunions are here

The evening was clear and calm as Hermione made her way to the address Orestes had given her.

She'd slept terribly the night before, her head too full of made up conversations that they'd probably never have, too full of the happy memory of his lips and hands on her body, too full of darker days when she'd looked at him with fear. With Orestes there was a lot of history, and not all of it had been good. As much as she'd always loved her husband, he had given her reasons in the past not to entirely trust him.

When Orestes had killed his mother, he had also killed the woman who had raised Hermione for ten years, the woman who had been more of a mother to her than Helen ever had been. Hermione had no loyalty or love for Agamemnon, but Clytemnesta had brushed her hair and sung songs to her, promising her that Helen hadn't left because she'd been naughty. Clytemnesta had called Hermione a good girl, a sweet girl. And Orestes had killed her.

And even though Hermione understood why he'd done it (why he felt he had to do it), it had still left a mark.

Another mark had been when Orestes had appeared suddenly in her home before their marriage and attempted to kill her. It hadn't been the finest of moments: him holding her at the edge of a roof, a sword pressed hard enough against her throat to draw a thin line of blood, her father far below begging for her life. He released her only at the command of a god. Hermione had gone, within horrifying moments, from hostage to bride.

It was hard for Hermione to remember how it all went though. She remembered marrying Orestes when he saved her from Neoptolemus, running away with him and becoming wife by choice. But she remembered also the forced marriage to a man who terrified her. A man she'd known in youth who now used her as nothing more than a pawn to hurt her father.

It would be easier for Hermione if only one of these stories was true, but both were equally valid. She was both of these wives, and Orestes was both of these husbands.

And so Hermione knocked on his door, eager to see him but nervous. It was hard to always love someone who had tried to kill her. (Yes, it had been such a small part of their lives together, but it was hard to forget the sting of steel against one's throat.)

She knew, though, that she wanted to see her husband, wanted to be with him. There was nowhere that at once felt safer and more dangerous than being in his arms. It was a difficult thing to come to terms with, but Hermione long ago had. She loved him, and if her fear occasionally showed in her eyes, Orestes had always been quick to reassure and calm her. It mostly worked.

Hermione brushed her hair back behind her ears and waited, nervously, for the door to open.

Orested released a breath he didn't realize he had been holding. Relief washed over him when he saw her smile, mirroring it with his own smile. He closed the door behind them, locking it. "It's been too long," he nodded in agreement. He turned to look at her, feeling as though a hole that had been there for so long was finally being filled. He reached out to touch her face, then brushed his fingers through her hair. "I really have missed you," he said sincerely.

Hermione felt herself relax against his touch, closing her eyes and letting out her breath. There was a ripple of wariness beneath Hermione's skin, but that was to be expected. Besides, if Orestes decided he was going to kill her... there wasn't much Hermione could do about it. She had a taser in her bag - just in case - but she'd lowered her guard now.

When she opened her eyes to look at him she said, "Me too." Then she closed the distance between them and kissed him softly.

There were parts of their stories that were a blur to Orestes. Particularly when he had been under the Furies' curse. He remembered doing things he regretted, things he would have never done if he had had a say. He counted himself fortunate that he no longer felt his life was lived in a blur, because he was able to make his own choices without fearing what maniacal thing he would do next. He wouldn't blame Hermione for being safe. He wouldn't blame her if she ever said it was too much of a chore to be with him, because even he knew what a thick skull he could have at times.

He admired the face he had missed most of all. Gods, she was as beautiful as he remembered. His fingers laced into her hair as she kissed him. He paused only for a moment to look at her and then kissed her again, this time more deeply.

Hermione smiled slightly against the kiss, a small sound of happiness in the back of her throat. Yes, this felt right. She'd been with only a few men since coming to America a century ago, but with all of them she'd felt like she was being unfaithful and had to end it. In her heart, she was always married to Orestes, she had always been his queen.

When she finally broke the kiss she rested her cheek against his. "I love you," she whispered.

Orestes could stay like this forever. He had missed her warmth, her touch, the way her hair framed her face. Even her scent had remained the same. No woman had ever compared to Hermione, and none ever would. He had had his fair share of lovers over the years but they never lasted more than a few years.

He sighed contentedly against her and smiled, "I love you, too." That flame would probably always burn.

After a few minutes just standing there in his arms, her hands moving slowly across his back, Hermione drew away. "I think," she said, "if I keep touching you I'm going to... become a little less composed." Her small smile was slightly mischievous.

No other woman had ever felt right in his arms. This was right. It always had been and it always would be. Gods, he had missed this. He had missed her and for a while he forgot all his worries. He grinned playfully at her and kissed the top of her head, "In what way, my love?" He couldn't bear it if she cried. Especially not after all this time apart. He didn't want their reunion to be one with tears, even if they were happy tears.

"Uh, it's been a long time since I've... you know," she said, running a hand through her hair slightly embarrassed. "And... well... looking at you right now, I am having trouble not thinking about it. But," she added quickly, "I don't want to rush into anything right now."

He watched her as she spoke. His grin turned into an amused smiled. Part of him wanted to point out he thought she looked quite adorable when she was embarrassed, but he really didn't want to ruin the moment. As he pulled her in closer he said, "That's something you never have to ask of me." He wrapped his arms around her and pressing his lips against hers once more. She could pounce on him anytime, day or night.

Oh, he was a terror, Orestes was. She smiled against his lips again and then drew away. "No," she said to him. "Let's talk. Tell me where you've been, what you've been doing here?"

Just like that, Orestes felt her pull away and he couldn't help feeling disappointed. But he wouldn't force her to do something she didn't want to do. He sighed quietly and rested his forehead against hers for a moment. He then straightened up and nodded, "As you wish. We can talk in here" he said, leading her to the living room.

As he led her, Hermione slipped her hand into her husband's, still wanting to stay in contact with him despite that making it more difficult to resist going to bed with him. She knew she shouldn't, not yet.

"How long have you been in America?"

A littler smile appeared on his face when he felt her hand in his. He gave it a little squeeze to express some tiny amount of affection.

He sat down on the couch, moving a hand to offer any of the available seats that remained, which was the remainder of the couch and two arm chairs. He thought about exactly when he first arrived in this country, "I don't recall the exact year, but it seems it was about four or five decades ago. When I didn't like it all that much I returned home for two weeks, only to find myself back here." He smiled slightly at that, "After a couple more attempts I gave us any hope of remaining at home permanently." He didn't like that he was confined to this one country and only two weeks away at a time. "What about you? Have you been here long?"

"I never tried going back to Greece," Hermione admitted. "I couldn't really afford to do it for a long time and then once I could..." She shrugged a little sadly. "By then I'd read so much about our homeland and seen photos of the ruins that were left of Mycenae and Argos. I thought it would just make me sad to see places that had once been palaces now just... broken stone for tourists to photograph."

She watched Orestes fingers as she ran her thumb across them slowly, taking in the familiar feeling of his skin, trying to just slowly enjoy it and not move things along too fast. "I got here in 1939. Things were difficult for a really long time and... confusing. But I'm sure you remember that feeling too. This whole world was fast and different and completely terrifying." She looked and and smiled at her husband. "But it got better with time. I missed you though. For that first decade I barely did anything but look for you. After that... I gave up hope, a little."

Orestes frowned, nodding in agreement, "It was quite depressing. At the time I missed it so much I thought I could look passed what it had turned into. I realized I missed the people and the memories more than the places themselves. Life was empty without everyone I loved and moving on was difficult."

He nodded as he listened to her recount her own arrival to this country. He did remember feeling very detached from the world, the feeling of not belonging, the need to find his family. He figured it was similarly for others like them, but that didn't make it any easier. He brought her hand closer and kissed the top gently, "I'm sorry you went through it alone. I swear to you that you will never have to search for me again."

"It's lonely being without the people you love," Hermione said, her little smile directed very meaningfully at Orestes.

Hermione leaned in to press her forehead gently to Orestes' after his kissed her hand. "I love you. I'm so glad to have you back."

Orestes nodded, "It is." There had been times he had tried to fill that empty space with others. The longest he had stayed in any relationship in this life was a few months. They were meaningless to him. They lacked everything he loved about his family.

He closed his eyes for a moment, thinking of all their time together. He missed it, but he no longer had to dwell on everything he had lost. Because the one thing he wanted the most was right here. "So am I," he said, opening his eyes again. "I love you, Hermione. My life is completely meaningless without you."

How could Hermione possibly deny herself being close to Orestes when he said things like that? He'd always had her, even when they were youths simply betrothed to each other through parental dealings.

And so she kissed her husband again, wrapping her arms around him and leaning in close.

Maybe that did throw him off somewhat. But he wasn't about to let a little surprise ruin it. He smiled into her lips, his hands pressing firmly against her back. Gods he missed her. Why had he ever stopped looking?

For all her high words about thinking this wouldn't be a good idea, Hermione wasn't letting him go. When she drew back it was only enough so that she could whisper, "take me to bed."

If there was anything that could get his heart racing, it was his wife asking him to bed. He grinned slightly, then nodded, "As you wish." He stood up, scooping her up in his arms and made his way for the back room.

The way he lifted her so easily, the way he smiled at her, the way that Orestes did everything... it was all there in her mind, everything they'd had in the past, everything they could have again. She leaned up to kiss him, even if it might make him stumble or stop walking.

Yes, this definitely felt right. Everything about this was right. He let out a little groan of pleasure when she kissed him, stopping momentarily before continuing on. When they reached the bedroom he gently set her on the bed, carefully holding himself as he knelt down to kiss her again.

Hermione slowly drew back from the kiss and sat up on the bed, coming to her knees in front of him. Then, slowly and with a tiny smile, she begun to unbutton his shirt, holding her breath.

For a moment, Orestes let her take over as she undid his shirt. Memories rushed into his head of old days. He breathed steadily as he looked at his wife, completely taken with her.

Beneath Orestes' shirt, his skin was just like she'd remembered and Hermione slowly ran her fingers across him, feeling every inch of her own skin almost tingle in response. She wanted to savour this completely.

Orestes still bore some scars from his past life. Even rebirth couldn't heal those. But he didn't want them fixed. They were tokens of past battles he had won. The only one he would have liked to have vanish was the snake bite on his leg.

He loved the touch of her fingers against his skin. He rain his own fingers through her hair. It was the most beautiful hair that had ever existed, just as she was the most beautiful to Orestes. He smiled lightly, letting his fingers run gently down her neck to her sides. His hands snuck under her shirt and he carefully pulled her own shirt up and over her head.

Hermione almost shivered when Orestes drew off her shirt and she reached behind her back with one hand, the other resting on his chest, to unclip her bra as she kissed him again.

He couldn't believe how much he had missed her. All those years between them easily melted away as he put a hand behind her back to ease her back against the bed.
