Who: Jamie and Roxanna
What: It's the end of the world as we know it
When: Tuesday morning
Where: Kemp house

Jamie, as he seemed to be doing lately, had been in a funk. No matter how much he texted Theseus, or tried to call him, he barely seemed to make contact. And even when he did, it wasn't for long. But finally, finally, he'd managed to convince Theseus to come over that night. They'd had dinner and watched a movie, then went upstairs and spent a good chunk of time just enjoying each other. They finally fell asleep in the wee hours, and Jamie had drifted off, a small flame of hope starting to burn in his chest.

When he woke up, Theseus was gone, which he'd sort of expected. What he hadn't expected, however, was the envelope on the pillow. His heart started to beat, harder and faster than it had a moment ago, and his hand shook as he reached for it. It had a slight weight to it, and he knew what he'd find inside before he even opened it.

Sure enough, inside he found Theseus' ring, and a small bit of folded paper. The paper shook as he unfolded it, and stared at the words written there. 'I'm sorry.' That was it. No explanation, no reason, no nothing. Just 'I'm sorry'.

Jamie felt like he'd been punched in the gut. It was suddenly far too hot in his room, and he found it hard to breathe. He tried to get up, but he couldn't push himself up. It took three tries before he managed it, the ring and note in a death grip in his hand. He tried to stand, but his knees were shaking violently, and he collapsed onto the bed. The whole room seemed to be spinning, and it was hard to even tell up from down.

He tried to stand up once again, and made it about five steps before his legs gave out, and he went down in a heap. He figured that was the universe trying to tell him something, and so he just stayed there on the floor. Because there was really no point in him getting ready for school, there was no way he wanted to do anything but stay home and be miserable.

Roxanna, who'd heard the thud, poked her head in and found him lying on the floor. "You alright, hon?" she asked, kneeling down beside him.

Jamie passed her the envelope without a word. She looked at the contents, then back at him, and a look of horror came over her face as it dawned on her.

"But you just-"

"I know."

"And so he-"

"Yup."

"So what-"

"I have no idea."

She looked back down at the envelope again, then laid it down on the floor and removed her shoes. "Well I know you're not going anywhere today," she said. "And I don't want to leave you alone, so neither am I."

"Thanks, Roxie," Jamie whispered. He shuffled across the floor towards her, then laid his head on her lap. Roxanna ran her fingers through his hair, as she'd done so many times before. She said nothing when she felt him start to shake, or when warm, damp spots appeared on her jeans. She held her brother and let him cry, because there was nothing else for her to do. She had no way to make this better, and right now, she didn't really want to try. There'd be time for that later, but for right now, Jamie needed to mourn.

Having had his cast removed last week, Thomas was finally fully mobile after the car accident that nearly took his life. The pain remained, though Thomas was now controlling that with a targeted routine of opiates, which was overlooked by Lena.

He was feeling much more positive about his life these days, and he actually took the stairs to Jamie's room two and a time, because he could. "Breakfast!" he called out, but his cheerful demeanor faded entirely when he saw his son on the floor, his head in Roxanna's lap, crying.

"Oh god," he breathed, immediately falling to his knees (ow). "Jamie! Jamie, what happened!?"

Jamie groped around for the envelope that had shattered his life, but couldn't find it. Roxanna eventually found it and passed it to Thomas.

"He's gone," Jamie said in a hollow voice. "He's gone, and he's not coming back."

Thomas felt his heart break the second he read the letter and heard the pain in Jamie's voice. He didn't know how to do this, how to talk his child through a broken relationship. It had always been Thomas who had suffered through his loves leaving him, and he had, with the exception of Jamie's mother, kept that from Jamie himself. This was a new experience for both of them. Thomas had thought he might honestly never have to watch Jamie go through it either.

He had trusted Theseus that much.

"Jameson," Thomas said, reaching out to stroke his son's hair. "I'm so sorry." God, what else could he say!? "Oh, son."

Jamie sniffed loudly. "'S not your fault," he said thickly. "But I'm not taking it well, as you can see. I don't even want to go to school today, because I'm pretty sure I'll be a mess all day. Maybe all week."

"Of course-" How was Jamie supposed to take it? "No, of course not. I'll stay home too. I'm not going anywhere. Can...can I get you anything? Do you want help back up to your bed?" He wa pretty sure he could life Jamie back up there if needed, even though it would hurt like a motherfucker.

"I can get back up, I'm just being miserable," Jamie told him. "My knees were shaking when I got up, that's how I wound up down here. Which is where Roxie found me."

"I'm doing a mass blocking on your phone," Roxanna told him. "On basically every app I can find."

"I'm sure I'll be grateful later," Jamie sighed. "Right now I really don't care."

"Did you say something about breakfast?" he continued. "I'm not in an eating mood, but I know I should."

Thomas couldn't help the little burst of pride and love he felt for his son then. Jamie was so brave and wonderful and kind. He wanted to break Theseus' arm for breaking Jamie's heart. "Come on, loves," he said, standing up and offering both Jamie and Roxanna a hand, "you can pick at it if you need to. Lena made you coffee too."

Jamie took his father's hand and hauled himself up, then Roxanna did the same. She snagged Jamie's phone from the bedside table, and followed both of them downstairs.

"Coffee, yes please," Jamie said. "Just drown me in coffee."

"I'd rather not," Thomas said, his arm hovering close to Jamie in case his son fell over again. "But I'll give you a lot of it."

When they entered the kitchen, Lena turned and grinned but it faded quickly when she caught sight of her family looking so upset. "Oh dear. Okay, all of you sit," she said, without even knowing what was going on. She started ladling food onto plates for all of them.

"Well I'll take that too," Jamie muttered.

He and Roxanna sank into chairs as Lena dished up some food, Roxanna tapping away.

"How do you know my passcode?" Jamie asked, only vaguely curious.

"It's cute you think it's secret," she replied, scrolling through Jamie's Instagram followers.

Thomas arched an eyebrow at Roxanna, but he didn't say anything. He wondered if knowing had something to do with being Hermes' daughter, or it was just because she was Roxanna.

"We're going to take it easy today. Breakfast and then maybe watching a bunch of crap on Netflix?" he suggested, handing his son some coffee.

"He knows mine too," she explained, seeing Thomas' look. "I'm pretty sure we were drunk and trying to take pictures so the other would have them. I don't know."

"If you say so," Jamie sighed. "But yes. That sounds like a good day, Dad. Something we don't have to think too much about."

Thomas felt a bit guilty because he hadn't actually been judging Roxanna at all. "Hell, I'd give you my password if you wanted it," he said, though he wasn't sure if that actually made anything better or not.

"Righto. Something silly and British then, maybe. Take your mind off it if possible." To Lena he mouthed 'Theseus' and she looked suddenly mutinous. "Love you, Kiddo."

"Oh that's fine," she said, finishing up and setting the phone down. "We know better than to read each other's texts, it's mostly just to take pictures and post Facebook statuses as the other person. Because we're totally adult."

Jamie looked at Lena's sudden expression change, then back to his dad. "Yeah, whatever he's mouthing behind me," he sighed. He handed Lena the envelope from his room. For some reason, he'd brought it down with him.

Lena glanced at the envelope and firmed her jaw. "Asshole," she hissed. She had considered Theseus a friend and she knew Aidan did too, though now she rather wanted to kill him. She moved to plant a kiss on Jamie's head. "You deserve so much better."

"I thought that better was gonna include him," Jamie said sadly, sipping at his coffee. "But thanks, Lena."

Roxanna muttered something unkind in Greek as she dug into her breakfast.

"I only caught about half of that, but I'm pretty sure that isn't actually possible," Jamie told her, finally cracking a small smile.

"Do I want to know?" Thomas asked, arching is eyebrows.

"You'll probably just blush or wonder what it is and end up googling it," Lena joked, leaning in to kiss him on the cheek. "Eat something too," she ordered him, and Thomas looked hangdog.

"What she said," Roxanna agreed, winking at Lena. She poked Jamie gently. "Come on, just a couple bites. One cannot live on coffee alone."

Jamie sighed again, but did as he was told. Roxanna eyed him until she was satisfied he'd actually do it, then tucked back into her own plate.

Roxanna smiled at Thomas as she finished the last of her coffee. "So I vote we watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail," she said, picking up a previous thread in the conversation. "Because that sounds like the best idea right now."

"As long as you don't go around banging things together to sound like horse hooves," Jamie said, letting out a snort.

"I make no promises."

"Unfortunately, we lack the coconut shells to produce the proper sound effect," she joked. "Though we do have wooden spoons..."

Jamie groaned and rested his head on the table. Roxanna just patted his head, looking serene. "Just accept your fate, grasshopper," she laughed. "We're going to watch British comedy and quote it at each other all day, and you're powerless to stop it."
