WHO: Thomas Kemp, Lena Rainmayr, Jamie Kemp, Roxanna Fielding? maybe Maddy, maybe Nerds
WHAT: Thomas flipping his lid
WHEN: Backdated to last weekend, during the blackout
WHERE: Their home
WARNINGS: Language, TBD

Over the past week and change, New York City had descended into chaos and mayhem. Thomas had been watching their collection of food dwindling with ever-rising panic. Flashbacks to his past were happening more and more often until one night, after dark, when Lena walked into the kitchen to find him staring into the nearly empty cupboards.

"Two cans. Just two cans. Some bread. Nothing, there's nothing."

"Thomas," Lena moved over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. The room was only lit by a flickering candle, which made Thomas appear slightly menacing. "Everything okay?"

"Two cans. Only two cans. Can't do this. Two cans."

"Uhhhh-" Lena backed away from Thomas and edged over towards the stairs. "Guys!" she called up to Jamie and Roxanna. "Guys, can you come down here for a moment?!"

Jamie wasn't a huge fan of the dark. When it had been dark when he was a kid, it meant something bad had happened. He'd mostly grown out of it, but the fact that it was so sudden and prolonged, it had started to make him anxious.

Roxanna was doing OK, more or less. The shades seemed to come and go as they pleased, but they didn't frighten her. She hadn't told Jamie they were there, though. She didn't want his anxiety to spike any higher.

Both of them trooped downstairs when Lena called for them, trailed by a shade Roxanna hadn't been able to shake all week, no matter how she'd tried. She'd given up trying by now. "What's wrong, Lena?" Jamie asked.

Lena moved Jamie and Roxanna back into the kitchen where she pointed at Thomas.

For his part, Thomas was still muttering to himself as he stared into the black abyss of the cupboard.

"He's just been standing like that. Thomas? You alright there?" Lena called over.

"There's nothing for Jamie's dinner," Thomas half-mumbled back.

Jamie raised his eyebrows, mouth slightly open in surprise. "I'll try talking to him," he said, taking a few steps toward his father.

"Dad?" he called softly. "Dad, I'm over here, I'm fine. Are you OK?"

Thomas glanced at Jamie, but there was no recognition in hi eyes as he turned back to the nearly empty pantry. "No, no. No, Jamie. My son. There's nothing. He's going to starve and I can't do anything. I'll give him everything we have left, but it's still not enough."

Lena just stared blankly, completely unsure of what to do.
