Lena tended to worry every time Thomas wasn't in her sight, since bad things tended to happen to him. Today, however, she hadn't even worried a little. Thomas had been with Aidan, on some kind of secret mission they wouldn't tell Charlotte or Lena about. He wasn't alone and Lena trusted Aidan with all of her heart, she just hadn't been expecting a drunk driver to ruin everything.

When she received the call, she wasn't expecting the worst like she usually did when her phone rang and her family wasn't in view. Hearing the hospital refer to her as Mrs Kemp (even though she had never changed her name) and inform her that her husband was currently in the ICU shook her so much she couldn't speak for several seconds. Then instead of saying anything to the person on the phone, she held it to her chest and screamed Jamie's name.

Maddy buckled Diana into her car seat in record time, and spent the entire ride to the hospital with a white-knuckled grip on the door. She couldn't picture a world without Thomas in it, she just couldn't.

At the hospital, she hovered in the waiting room as Jamie and Lena went in. Jamie squeezed her hand once before going in, and his heart leaped into his throat when he saw his father in the bed. The whole scene looked like something out of a movie, but it wasn't, this was his life. He felt Lena grab his hand and he clung on for dear life, almost afraid to speak.

"Thomas-" Lena leaned down and she kissed Thomas' cheek carefully. "Oh god-" A nurse was passing and Lena nearly leaped across the aisle to grab her. "Please! Is he- Is he going to be okay?" she asked, pointing at Thomas.

As the nurse answered, Lena only heard the important words. Not out of the woods. Broken ribs and arm and leg. Punctured lung they had had to re-inflate. Possible head and internal injuries. Possible coma. No way to know. Waiting game. Further tests.

Lena felt like she had been kicked in the heart and that was when she spotted Aidan lying in the bed beside Thomas. She let out a wail and covered her eyes.

	For Aidan, coming back to consciousness felt like he was slowly swimming upwards through molasses. He couldn't lift his head, and his limbs felt like they were made of lead. But he blinked his eyes open and looked around, his gaze falling on Lena and Jamie. "'ena," he croaked out. "Lena," Jamie said, squeezing her hand. "Lena, he's awake, look." 	Aidan tried to say, "I don't know, I can't feel any of my limbs," but it mostly came out as a mumble. His head hurt and his body felt heavy, and on top of that, his mouth felt like a desert. 	Lena nodded and she flagged down a nurse to get some water. When it was provided, she offered a drink to her friend by holding the glass out and turning the straw towards him. "Careful," she whispered to him. "Take it slow. I should see if Charlotte is here. Technically she can't see you but she'll be allowed to see Thomas." Only family was allowed in the ICU. 	Aidan managed to get down two sips before the effort made him feel tired. His head flopped back against the pillows, and he looked up at Lena through eyes that were only half open. "What happened?" he rasped, finding it easier to talk after a drink. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Aidan tried to turn his head, but that hurt. He could see another figure in the bed next to him out of the corner of his eye, though, so he figured that must be Thomas.

"We were driving somewhere," he said, closing his eyes and sounding like he was puzzling it out. "And then there was a crunching sound, and...and there's nothing after that." He opened his eyes again and looked at Lena. "Could I have some more water, please?"

	Lena nodded and held the cup out to him so he could drink some more. "Jamie," She whispered. "I think we need to get Charlotte. Please?" Aidan managed to drink a bit more than last time, but he still fell back against the pillows after a few moments. "My body feels like lead," he told Lena. "My head is killing me. Lena laughed through her tears and she nodded at him. "You're an idiot, but I love you," she informed him.

Charlotte, who had been on her way to the hospital to be with Thomas when Jamie had called her, burst into the ICU. "Aidan!" she said, rushing to his side. "Oh my fucking god! What-? Shit. Babe. You dying? If you're dying you're fucking marrying me before you do it."

	Aidan barked out a laugh, which he regretted a minute later because it hurt his chest and throat. "I'm pretty sure I'm not dying, Char," he told her. Thomas let out a whimper and murmured, "Jayyyy," but it was pretty clear he was trying to say Jamie's name.

"He's here," Lena soothed her husband. "Don't try to talk, okay? You were in an accident and your lung- They had to reinflate it. Just breathe."

"I have to go get Mom," Charlotte said, rushing back to the waiting room where Emma was currently holding Lil and Maddy with a death grip.

	Thomas couldn't really talk and he definitely couldn't move but he groaned at Jamie. Lena wrapped an arm around Jamie and smiled through her crying at her husband. "They said you might be in a coma so- Yeah. Glad you're awake." Thomas licked his lips and he had to concentrate very hard before he managed to say, "drugs." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
