WHO: Lena and Jamie (And maybe Thomas later?)
WHAT: Forts and sweetness
WHEN: Tuesday
WHERE: Their house
WARNINGS: ?
Forts, as it happened, were sort of Lena's specialty. Give her a few blankets, some pillows and a few stray, foam mattresses and she could make a fucking fort masterpiece out of them. Her childhood and especially her early teen years had been largely spent in some kind of Lena-built fortress or another, earbuds jammed into her ears, music blasting away at high volume. There was no better way to avoid the family she had believed would never understand her, than hunkered down while the anger sizzled inside her belly like burning paper. She would imagine the blanket walls were stone and the floor around her was a moat of liquid lava would would swallow any intruders all up, leaving nothing but curling smoke in their wake.
It was different now. Lena never felt alone. She didn't need her self-built fortress of solitude to close her off from furtive and worried glances. This was a different kind of structure, built to share. She might still imagine the walls were made of stone, but they weren't for her alone.
By the time Jamie joined her, the fort was nearly done. It was being supported by the backs of couches and a few chairs. Several mattresses had been dragged in to cover the hardwood floor, and a table had been situated at the side with her laptop propped on it. She would let Jamie choose the show, since she wasn't all that picky. She also had snacks placed just about everywhere. Both Jamie and Lena had been kept for days without much food while at the mercy of the demons who tortured them, and ever since the flashbacks had returned with a vengeance, Lena had taken to keeping food with her at all times. She figured Jamie would understand without having to say anything.
She smiled at him when he entered the room, proud of her handiwork. "I reckon this'll do," she said, downplaying her pride.
