Lena was nervous. Perhaps nervous wasn't strong enough a word. Lena was metaphorically shitting enough bricks to build a house. She had never really done the long-term relationship thing before and now here she was, asking to do the long-term relationship thing forever?

Jamie had helped decorate the house and Victor was keeping Thomas occupied until it was time to surprise him. The pizzas were cooking and everyone had gathered. Lena had even given baby Deirdre a cuddle before handing her back to her mother.

"Jamie!" Lena called out. "He's supposed to be back in a few moments, come remind me this is a good idea before I change my mind!"

"I think you're good with that," Charlotte informed Theseus with a giggle.

"Nah, lights off might just make him think his brain is having problems again and guess what we don't need today!?" Lena said before taking a few breaths to calm down.

"He's going to be surprised anyway," Charlotte reminded her friend. "He's ridiculous and he never thinks things are for him. Even if he walked right in here now we would have to tell him. And there's a banner with his name on it."

That made Lena snort. "Well, there's a point!"

Outside, Victor pulled the car to the curb and he grinned at Thomas who bundled out of it. "I still don't understand why you wouldn't just let me get a hot dog at that cart, dude," Thomas said, and Victor just chuckled. "I'm telling your fiancee on you."

"I'm sure her wrath will be great," Victor replied. "In you go."

Thomas opened the front door and as soon as he made his way into the dining room, he was surprised to see his friends and family there. "Oh well, hello you lot," he said, sounding a little confused.

"Surprise!" Lena called out, leaving Jamie's side to flounce over to her boyfriend.

"Are we having a party?" Thomas asked, pretty confused.

Maddy laughed. "Yeah, what she said," she agreed. She stepped down from the ladder, surveying her handiwork. "Not pretty, but it should stay up now," she said, nodding once.

"Yeah, fair enough," Jamie agreed. He laughed at Char's comment. "True. Maybe we all stand there and smile? Seems simple enough."

"We are indeed," Jamie informed his father. "Though I think Lena should explain it, because she's the mastermind behind the entire thing."

	Kat just rolled her eyes at Thomas, but in a fond way. "Sometimes, Thomas. Sometimes." Theseus couldn't help but chuckle and once the banner was up he went to Jamie. He set his arm around Jamie's shoulder and nodded. Normally he'd do something silly or draw attention to himself, but this was important and he wasn't really that selfish. Thomas glanced at Lena, his eyes raised up. He didn't notice Victor sneak past him, returning to Kat's side because for some reason his girlfriend was kneeling. No no, she was going down on one knee, and then-

"Thomas Julian Kemp," Lena said, a goofy look on her face, "will you marry me?"

And all of a sudden his heart was in his throat. His belly filled with butterflies. Around him, the smiling faces of his family and friends waited expectantly. He remembered to breathe somewhere around the forty-five second mark, and then he realised that he was the one who was supposed to break it.

"I-" They were all here for him. Everyone was staring at him. The banner read 'congratulations' and Thomas was pretty sure he was about to burst into tears. He wasn't the one who got engaged. He was the one who had fucked up his life so he got to watch as all his friends paired off one by one and he went through it all alone and only slightly bitter about it. And now there was a beautiful, wonderful woman offering to spend her life with him and it was just a little bit overwhelming. It didn't help that Thomas knew life with him wasn't going to be a cake walk. He was going to develop Huntington's and deteriorate and Lena was kneeling there on the floor, asking if she could be there for it.

"I don't deserve you," he finally settled on, wiping madly at his eyes. "But that doesn't mean no. Of course I will."

Lena jumped up then, grinning madly. "Don't be dumb," she giggled. "You totally deserve me, and I'm awesome so I don't say that lightly." And then she launched herself into his arms to cover his face in kisses as he laughed delightedly.

Jamie leaned into Theseus' arm, smiling at him before turning back to Lena and his dad. His heart felt like it might explode with joy, both of them deserved so much to be happy, and this was definitely a step in the right direction.

Maddy had gotten out her camera and was taking pictures of the whole thing, a few happy tears in the corners of her eyes. "You guys, I'm so happy for you, seriously," she said, using her thumb to brush them away.

"Awwww" Kat managed to get out, absolutely delighted by all this. She liked seeing her friends happy, especially being happy herself. She grinned happily at Thomas and Lena, glad for the two.

Theseus also smiled at the two and hugged Jamie in excitement. Theseus had jsut witnessed his mother getting re-married and felt Jamie and his family deserved the same kind of joy.

	Unsurprisingly, Thomas started bawling, but Lena managed to show him the ring she had gotten him. "I got me a ring too, just so you know," she laughed, and put her own ring on her finger. "Now go hug your son," she said, spinning him by his shoulders and pointing him towards Jamie. Then she jumped and went to go hug Kat and Victor. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Tommy, if you keep crying, I'm gonna keep crying," Maddy laughed, grinning from ear to ear. "A+ ring choices, Lena." Jamie wrapped his dad in a tight hug, smiling into his shoulder. Thomas clung to his son for probably a little too long because for ages it had just been Jamie and Thomas; a team. Now there was Lena and Theseus though, and that was wonderful. When he pulled away, he kissed his son's hair, pretty sure Jamie would never be too old for that. "I love you," he said quietly, before moving on to give Theseus a bear hug. He knew he should get that in quick before his sisters got to him and squeal-hugged him.

Lena laughed and patted Theseus' back. "Thanks, dude! You get to travel to Vienna with us soon too, lucky you!" Then she went to go hug Charlotte, grinning at Kat over her friend's shoulder. "Aww, Kat! It's going to be awesome! And you have to be a bridesmaid!"

"I love you too," Jamie said, squeezing him one last time before stepping back before his toes got stepped on.

Maddy was right behind him, grabbing her brother in a fierce hug, still tearing up a bit. "You're getting married, oh my god!" she exclaimed. "They grow up so fast, don't they, Kiddo?"

Jamie snorted. "They really do," he agreed. "Seems like only yesterday he was Captain Giraffe."

	Theseus laughed into the hug and nodded at the comment. "Yeah it'll be great. I might have to pry my boyfriend of one of the old cathedrals if he decides to go eloping with it, but I think I can take it." Kat laughed to that. 	Lena snickered at Theseus, "I have a feeling Thomas will help you pry him off, since he hardly wants to leave his son in Europe." To Kat she said, "we should go dress shopping together! Since I doubt either of are necessarily going to go traditional, yes? It would be so much fun!" "Oh god, they're already planning," Thomas laughed as he hugged both his sisters.
