WHO: Theseus, Zoe, and Greed
WHEN: [Backdated] November 20th
WHERE: Theseus' place/fancy hotel suite
WHAT: Granddaddy gets protective of his little grandbaby, Greed sneaks in to talk
WARNING: Fussy men and their toys
Zoe had been at Theseus' hotel suite for two days now. He wasn't going to shut her out when it kept her from dallying with the Sins. He felt a little guilty after his talk with Ariadne that he was becoming more like his father than he'd like by telling too tell Zoe what to do with her life.
It was also obvious that he had no idea what to do with her at his place. It had been a long time since he had had one of his children around to father. So he let her sleep, tip-toing his way around, letting her talk when she wanted.
He didn't know what she liked to eat so he ordered out from his favorite Greek restaurant. It was actually owned by a Greek man and his family, so everything was authentic, not like a fast food joint. He sneaked back into the suite hopeful in a small way she was still there. It wad nice having the company. He saw her up and tried to our conversation in the open air. "I should take you sailing sometime. Maybe in a few weeks?" It might be a false hope. He still sometimes want sure how long he'd stick around, but making solid plans made it feel like he really was trying to break his bad habits.

Zoe had told Jonah they were going to have a talk but she really didn't want to be around him OR Greed right now. Both boys were messing with her head. The only man a girl wants to see at a time like this is her father and since Zoe didn't have one, she wound up at her grandfather's door instead. She was a little weirded out he lived in the hotel. It was nice and all, but not very homey. But she didn't say much, they were still getting to know each other. She told him briefly what was the matter. Dirty, stinky, boys were playing with her emotions. Everyone was lying to her. She just felt confused. She wore mostly long sleeves to hide Greed's handiwork, if he saw those bruises she was sure he'd never let her out of his sight again. She was sitting on the couch thing in his room when he brought in the food, happily digging in, this time her appetite was still there (probably cause of the sex marathon with the Sin where she barely ate). She gave him a bright smile at the suggestion of sailing, "I'd like that." Being around her for so long in such close proximity, he'd be able to see things before he might not have picked up on. Zoe was very much a water baby, she felt most at peace and calm in the water, whether it was at the beach or holed up in his bathtub like when she got there. From the way she talked, she had gotten his infamous habit of avoiding and running from problems. She had always had a love of greek food and never knew why. And though she was very much her grandmother and mother's daughter in looks, sometimes when she pulled a certain face, there was a shadow of Theseus' reflection in it.

Getting a real apartment meant solidifying himself in one spot, and as much as he was stretching himself, that was a step he still wasn't willing to take. It meant staking his feet in the ground and he still want sure he could promise Zoe that fully. Not yet.
At seeing her chow down he wondered just what he could say, but he had nothing. "I'm glad I got more than pita bread," he worked a suave smile taking a seat across from her in the chair. "We'll go before it gets too cold." Seeing her happy about something felt nice. He could see Sophia there at that moment.
_________________________
Zoe didn't ask him about getting an apartment. She knew that he was flighty and it was easier to run away when you didn't have a lease and furniture. She'd poured out the mess she'd been having with boys in her life to him the night before. How Greed had been in the cold, how he'd respected her space, how he ended up staying the night but didn't put any moves on her. How he'd ended up staying the weekend (with no mentions of sex) and how he had been sorry and in love only for them to find out her roommate was an immortal, a Virtue. How hurt she was because she thought Jonah had been her friend but she was just some stupid pawn in this war they had against each other. How she was so confused. She pulled her knees to her chest and leaned forward to pick up a gyro and take a big bite so her cheeks puffed out. She smiled in response, sailing with him sounded nice.. like a family outing.

Theseus was still skeptical of her tie to Greed. Greed was a Sin, didn't they do what served them? So, why would anything he did benefit anyone but himself? It was even something Theseus thought for his own mantra at times, so what would make this kid any different? He was the embodiment of Greed, everything should be a game. A Virtue sounded a whole lot safer in his book. One thing Theseus could and would promise her was that he would provide a hide-out when she needed it. Getting away from the influential type seemed something she needed right now. He didn't trust her with anyone.
"I wish you'd turn your phone off," Theseus said as it rattled off against the counter. It wasn't the first time he'd heard it ping, or the last, which could only mean that someone was intent on getting in touch with her. "Which one is it this time?" As if he really had the authority to say anything.
_________________________
She looked at the phone and then swallowed, "Sorry..." she said like a kid that was told by their parent to not have the phone on during dinner time. She snatched it up only after he asked which boy was trying to get in touch this time. She looked at the name and twisted her lips to the side, raising her gaze to her grandfather, "Chance..."
_________________________
Theseus' expression clearly said for her to not answer it. It was a ploy to get her to give up her location. "He doesn't need to know where you are." As long as she was there she wasn't too have company. It would get too crowded.
_________________________
She sighed, tempted by Greed's picture that he sent and said in a fidgety way to Theseus, "I know.... I don't think he'd show up if I told him even, he's not too fond of you." but she did respond to his text and let him know she was spending a couple of days at her grandfather's place.
_________________________
"Good, at least we agree on something." He started a fresh pot of tea while she ate. And he wanted to be sure she ate as she seemed still pale and exhausted.
It was a few seconds later her phone went off again reading:
WHERE AT?
_________________________
She frowned at the text and sent one back Some hotel. I will see you later in the week..
_________________________
Greed was not going to take no as an answer and she knew it. WHERE?! It had only been days but the Sin was working overtime to be sure she didn't slip through his fingers again.
_________________________
She texted back, Downtown. He will punch you again if he sees you.
_________________________
Greed insisted it didn't matter. He was sober unlike last time. He refused to let some washed up sea cod wiggle into his way because he had the title of family. If it wasn't a Virtue in his way it was someone else. Greed was getting tired of shit in his way.
_________________________
Zoe looked at the phone and then hesitantly looked over at Theseus before she texted back to Greed, Will you behave with him? normally she wouldn't really dictate his behavior but she was too emotionally and mentally beat up to referee.
_________________________
When do I not? he knew it was a loaded question. He knew she would argue it. But no threat of Theseus' was going to make him step off. Greed had to get to get before the Virtue did.
_________________________
Zoe texted back ALL THE TIME. and then looked over at Theseus, "Chance.. wants to come over.. if you don't want him near you, I can always ask him for a quick drink in the hotel bar? I promise I'll stick to a coke."
_________________________
It made him cringe, the detest in his face was clear. He wasn't sure about it at all. "If you go downstairs I'll be across the bar." He knew he needed to let her make up her own mind but he'd just gotten somewhere in her life, he didn't want to watch her die in front of him because he let a leech like Greed take her. Lust needed to wrangle her pet. Greed needed to understand she added a girl, just a girl. She couldn't keep up. He was a fool for expecting her to.
_________________________
She nodded. She texted Greed the address of the hotel and told him that her grandfather instead on coming and playing chaperone from across the bar. She changed into a yellow dress so Greed's attention would be on her mostly. Okay, maybe she'd packed it in hopes she'd see him. She hated doing it but she missed him. She had a shawl around her shoulders though to cover the few bruises that were there, tho they weren't nearly as much or as bad as on her hips, sides, back, etc. Her arms and the bottom half of her legs didn't get grabbed as much as the rest of her did.
_________________________
He want twelve. He didn't need someone snooping while he tried to have a conversation with his girlfriend. When he showed up to the hotel bar her flash of yellow drew him in like a bee to honey. It want the only mental image running through his head, because for a moment he imagined taking that dress off and the imagination went from there after their sex marathon two days before.
He greeted her with a kiss on the cheek and took a seat on one of the barstools. She was right to wheat yellow because at that moment he was too distracted to think of Theseus within proximity.
_________________________
Zoe would have countered with technically he's never been twelve but didn't. She blushed a little at the way he looked at her, since seeing him again also reminded her of their naked activities not too long ago. She had a seat next to him after he kissed her cheek and could feel Theseus staring at them but she didn't look over, she was glad Greed's attention was on her. "So.... how're you feeling?" she knew that Jonah had not only helped them have sex but he did a number on Greed's head and body as well.
_________________________
He was sucked into his own vision. He hasn't even heard her question, but he'd licked his lips, chewing down in his bottom lip. The sound of a glass slapping down on the counter snapped him from his daydream. "Sorry, did you say something?" He tried to focus but his eyes were still a little glazed over.
_________________________
She frowned, "I was asking how you were feeling...." he looked out of it. She touched his cheek to look in his eyes, feeling guilty that she had a Virtue as a roommate and didn't even know it, and had exposed him to it. "Are you okay?" was she never going to get the man she loved back?
_________________________
Greed lifted those long lashes, blue eyes meeting her brown pools. He scooted his stool a little closer, threading his feet through the rims. "I'm fine. I'm just imaging all the dirty little things I could do to you right now." Which the taste was still painfully right in front of him. He just wanted more than he could get right now. Her wearing yellow was a neon sign for him, his attention was going nowhere else for the next hour.
_________________________
"Oh." she was a little surprised but not really, her cheeks burning red. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as the realization struck her and she said in a small sad voice, "You couldn't.." and it was a sad thing to say but it was true. He couldn't do any of the things he did to her over the weekend, not without Jonah there to temper his Sin. She was a slice of sinful yellow cake with yummy frosting and he could not have one single bite.
_________________________
She smacked him back, rude. "Are you going to end up pissed at me that the magic can only be in your head?" she wanted to hold his hand but instead picked up a paper napkin and started to rip it into confetti slowly. "I don't know what to do or where to start." she confessed. Everything was a big mess, with her and him, and her and Jonah. She wanted to crawl under her grandfather's bed and never come out.
_________________________
"Give me a minute!" He barked with a playful snap of his teeth as he closed his eyes with a tasty end to his daydream. He opened his eyes again, caught in her gaze. Those eyes of hers as sweet as chocolate. He couldn't stop staring at them, flecks of amber when the bar light bounced off her dress and in her eyes.
_________________________
She let out a sigh and gave him a look before going back to ripping up the napkin. He didn't seem to get that all this was a big deal and she knew that he needed her to hold his hand and explain it in small words but she was just tired and didn't want to deal with any of it. "Can we talk tomorrow? I'll probably go back home and you can come by after work." she was trying to get out of dealing with it right now. Just like she'd used sex to get out of dealing with it over the weekend. Then the fight to get out of dealing with it then.
_________________________
"Do you think I came all the way here for a shot?" Greed gave her a deadpan look. "You dolled up all in yellow just to tell me you want to talk tomorrow?" He shook his head side to side. "No." That wasn't going to happen. He reached for her hand even if she pulled away. "Spit it all out," so he could repeal anything she thought she knew.
_________________________
She curled her hand away but once he had a firm grip on it, she didn't pull it back. "I don't know what to say. I don't even know what to think." it was a lot of stuff in her mind, everything was jumbled up and confused and it made her want to leave. That was partly why Theseus was so inviting, he was encouraging her to run from her problems, from Jonah, from Greed, from love. And he was her grandfather, he knew best.. right?
_________________________
"I know my dick is impressive but try---" he was trying to get her to lighten up. She wanted to take this seriously, but he wouldn't let her, she wasn't ready for that or her brain would explode. He motioned to his mouth. "See just open your mouth and let the words slide right out." Theseus might always insist running was the best option, but Greed would always push her out of her comfort zone.
_________________________
She just gave him a look that suggested she wanted to smile but couldn't. She was so close to cracking, he knew it better than she did. She looked at him and she turned her lips in as if physically keeping the words at bay and then saying finally, "No matter how many times you say what you felt was all you, it doesn't put my mind at ease. Maybe it wasn't the Jonah juice that had you feeling that way, maybe it was all that sex, and if it was, then its still a factor that's out of our control so what if sex was making you feel like that. What if you turn into that mean guy again now that you can't have it?" it was a sudden rush of words and fears, her hand alternating between gripping his and trying to let it go, right now she was trying to let it go as she spun to face the bartender, "Can I change my water order to a glass of wine?" apparently if he wouldn't physically let her out of this, she was going to find another way to mentally get out of it if she could.
_________________________
Greed cringed at her use of vocabulary. "For one, let's stop saying Jonah juice because it sounds like I had sex with him and that makes me want to vomit." He clutched his stomach as he felt it lunge forward. He had to calm himself a moment to get the mental image out of his head. If Jonah were his female self maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but the idea of rubbing skin with a Virtue just made him itch in all the wrong places. He started to scratch his arms without even thinking about it. "Secondly," he pointed his finger in the air, tapping it in reprimand, "Jonah or whoever the fuck he is did not zombiefy me to say or do anything. It wasn't a mind warp." She didn't remember did she, when she slowed him down a few pegs that night on her bed when he was still clothed. When she tempered him and eventually he flipped out. "You remember that time you tempered me?" He rolled his hand in the air to get the words going. "It was a lot like that only it wasn't you. Greed, Avarice whatever you want to call me was still there, just all the Sinly things were tempered down like cooling boiling water. I wasn't sitting in for Jonah and pretending Zoe." She had to understand that but she was making this more complicated. "Temperance is temperance. Her....or his whole being is to calm down and moderate. Now, if it were Charity she zaps me of everything and negates it to a degree. This was different." He reached for her hand again, holding it in his lap and staring her in the face.
_________________________
She did remember that night, but she still refused to believe it. "Fine.. if it wasn't him. Then maybe the..sex." she said the word sex in a hushed voice. "...made you say and feel those things. It happens to normal people all the time. They feel a certain way during sex because it's great and then when they stop having sex, those feelings go away." her hand spazzed a little in his, trying to casually disengage when the bartender put the glass of wine in front of her and she picked it up to take a big sip.
_________________________
She was being ridiculously defiant, throwing up her wall again like a pro. He growled at her as she took her hand away, not at all pleased that she had dropped contact. Eagle eye grandfather across the room also started to stick in his presence like a sore thumb. "Damnit Zoe. You're letting your fight and flight reflex kick in. Run away right? That's your best option. That sex you won't say out loud broke down this wall you wouldn't let me into. Now you're just building it right back up to shut me out." He hated it. He hated that her time with her grandfather was kicking her back into old habits. "Even if it hadn't been sex," he made sure to say the word louder than a whisper, "I would have taken anything that would help me break down that damned wall."
_________________________
Every time he said the word 'sex' louder, her cheeks lit up and finally she put her hands up in a calming gesture. "Yes, running away is my best option but I'm here, aren't I?" somewhat. Physically at least. Mentally and emotionally she was shoving him away. She took another sip of the wine to try to calm her nerves, "Fine, s--it broke down my walls for the weekend, it gave you what you wanted. It doesn't mean that what you say you felt was actually there. Maybe you confused relief and excitement for it. Because the thing is, unless we take Jonah around with us everywhere, then that might have been it. That's it. Are you telling me that's not going to frustrate the crap out of you? Since when has a taste ever been enough for Avarice?" she wasn't trying to be mean, she almost had a hint of desperation to her tone. She wanted to believe him but the damage was so great, she just couldn't.
_________________________
"No," he shook his head. "You're not here. You are putting on a show for me to save your own skin." That was his tactic, and maybe he'd trained her to be that way now. It was his own undoing. He was taking a kick in the ass for that one. He was ruffled because he didn't like someone telling how he felt. "Stop telling me what you think I really felt!" She was being such a girl about it and rearranging all the facts. "It might frustrate me, but I doubt it'll be the last time if I can help it." He'd find a way. Greed was notorious for seeking out his own avenue to get something he wanted. It took a little more work sometimes, but there as always an end result. "But it's not about the sex. This is about you shutting me out." Did she really think he was going to let her just have that one and keep going? "You are making my feelings a joke and yours justified."
_________________________
"You just admitted that it might frustrate you. Do you remember what happened the last time you got frustrated? You tried to break me. I'm not trying to make your feelings a joke, I'm trying to find a way to make this less painful for us. So yes, I'm shutting you out but it's because I see that it's not safe. And I'm scared. You got a high from this weekend," she didn't want to keep saying sex because he seemed to get louder every time the word was spoken and her grandfather wasn't too far away, "What happens when that high wears off?" there was only so much that could be said, nothing would convince Zoe as much as seeing that he meant what he said. His words, which once she took to be ironclad, were now as strong as marshmallows.
_________________________
"And I get a high off of a lot of things. That's how this works with me. I don't feel shit the same way you do. I don't see it the same way you do. Have you forgotten all about that?" It's like she was talking to just a boy, leaving all the parts of him that made him who he was out of it completely. "I know what happened but I see things from a different perspective that I didn't have before." Once Greed had his paws on something he enveloped it. It wasn't just on the surface. His experiences, his things, his highs and his lows were all wrapped together in one ball of yarn. He wasn't referring himself to her as Sin and boy anymore he was just Greed. "Even if it did wear off you would still be talking to me like this." He motioned his hand between them, "Like I'm just something you need to stay away from." She'd never treated him like that before. "Like how the rest of the world thinks of Greed." He slid off his stool. He wasn't going to keep talking to her like this, it was useless and no matter what he said it wasn't getting him anywhere. She was getting exactly what she saw of him, the mirror reflection of rejection.
_________________________
She was equal parts crushed and angry. "I fought for you.." she said in a quiet voice. "I defended you to the rest of the world. I look like a fool because you proved everyone else right." she wanted to touch him, his hand, his chest, his arm, but she didn't. "And now I'm getting beat up by you for not trusting your feelings when my trust in you is what got me hurt. I'm thrilled you see things in a new light. After the worst happens, people normally do because they see the results of their shitty actions. When I'm with you, my heart is in your hands, and I don't feel safe, so I have a wall. And I'm not going to apologize for it. I'm taking a page out of your book right now, I'm going to be selfish, and my first priority is to protect me." she had told him before that relationships were built on trust. She didn't think he ever understood that completely until now. Now he got to see the difference in having her trust fully and not having it. It had taken him months originally to gain her trust and he had broken it when he told her about Lust. It had taken him awhile to get her back on his side, but he'd done it. He'd shown her that even in Kansas, when they could have sex, he wouldn't until she loved him again. He showed her he meant what he said.
_________________________
"And now you side with the rest of the world." He started to applaud. He was no less hurt than she was. They both were justified in their feelings. He was just going to be just as selfish. He had to hand it to her for sticking to her guns, but he wasn't about to sit back and let her cock the trigger just yet. "I forgot that everything out of my mouth is a lie now. Even though you have a roommate that's guilty of the same thing, you want to blame me for what happened instead of asking him why he didn't bother telling you. Guess what, I know why, because he's a Virtue and he wants to help you from me. You're letting him as long as you hold up that wall. The more you refuse to let me in the more you're going to hate me. Forgive me if I'm not going to let that fly." He didn't want to stand here anymore looking like a fool himself. "Stop letting everyone else decide for you. Jonah, your grandfather. Even me. Trust you if you won't trust me. You used to look right through me and now you only sees what everyone else does." He flattened his hands out. He was done talking. He'd have to find a new way to convince her it wasn't okay to tell him he was just a lie and his feelings were void right now.
_________________________
She flinched, getting even more upset. "I know he lied. I haven't talked to him about it yet because you were more important to talk to first. I don't know what to do with him or if it's safe or what he was trying to do. I'm just a person, I don't know how to deal with your guys stupid immortal flame wars." she took a deep breath, he always forgot that. She was mortal. And finally she said, "I don't trust myself anymore either." which might be the biggest hit of all. She had been so sure of him and what they had, and it crumbled. She had been wrong. She picked up the wine glass and took a sip, not wanting to look at him right now.
_________________________
Greed didn't like the Virtue fucking with his stuff but he could be useful. He knew she would throw him under the bus the moment she went back home. "Just remember if you kick him out you lose your apartment. She would have to deal with him, and it saved him for later use. Greed didn't have to like something to know if could benefit him later.
He took the wine from her. She might hate him, she might not trust him, but he would still look out for her. His treasure.
