Who: Briareos and Kymopoleia
What: The Hekantonkheries gets a customer that is more than he bargained for...someone happens to come by.
When: Friday, October 25th
Where: Briareos' Tattoo parlor

There was no bell on the outside of his door so Briareos only knew he had a customer when they walked in. He was in the back room with an army of boxes holding the door open in case it closed in behind him. The world wasn't as claustrophobic as it had once been, but he wasn't taking any chances because there was a lock from the outside. The week had been fairly slow, his artist had left for the afternoon, so he was left alone in this shop which often became home when the lights went out. There was a bright red couch on the side of one wall, and a mural of a sperm whale and a giant squid. It was a reminder that there were still monsters in this world that would survive. He wasn't going to keep himself in a cage even if Poseidon had brought him in one.

A burly looking man came into the front door, his boots scuffing the wooden floor which was loud enough to tell Briareos he had company. "Who's there?" he called out, but when a few minutes went by with no answer he came out from the back to see the man standing like a statue. A chill went up his spine for a reason he wasn't sure, but he had no reason to be on the defensive. The man looked like he was just looking for a place to hide as he kept his eye out the door nervously. Briaroes could respect that as he often kept himself off the radar. "Need something?"

The man looked around kicking a chair with his boot and dipping his fingers into some ink that had been left behind by the artist. "I came in here a few weeks ago. I don't like what I got." Briareos didn't look particularly sympathetic. "Go somewhere else. I'm not the artist." He had done some work, but he preferred to be in the shadows. He was the owner but he wasn't about to open his doors for a complaint. He wasn't a fast food service. The man shuffled his hands into his pockets.

"Look punk. It's a shit tattoo and I want it fixed." Briareos picked up one of the boxes sitting by his desk. "I told you. Go somewhere else. The artist isn't here and we're closed." The man was irate, something Briareos could smell a mile away. The man shoved his way out of the store. A few hours passed so Briareos had no reason to have his defenses up, but the man was waiting out in the dark alley as Briareos closed up. He was thrown across the street against the dumpsters. Briareos had enough hate to feed off of that he could drag this man down the alley by his feet and snap every bone in his body. His hackles went up, and his lanky arms lashed out as if there were twenty. He hadn't yet grown anymore arms from his shoulders, but when he was threatened these days, ever since that hurricane a year ago it felt like they could grow like trees. The seeds were there, they just needed the nourishment. It had been overcast all day, so when the rain started to pelt down in fat blobs it made his skin crawl. He was sure at that moment when the man lunged at him again he felt an arm trying to make it's way out of his back.

"What the fuck you freak?!" the man staggered back looking at Briareos as if he were nothing more than a sideshow. It was a look he got often, it didn't seem very unique in this situation. But, it was the second hand that touched his arm that made him jump. Sure enough, the freak had finally had one of those extra arms appear for the first time in centuries. It startled him, he looked at it with wonderment, but just like a plant that had it's leaves plucked, it was weak---and when the man went at him with a knife stabbing at his shoulder repeatedly, it retreated almost as quickly as it had emerged. The man stabbed his shoulder again, until there was nothing but deep red blood coating Briareos' arm. When he looked down he was certain that both of them were just hallucinating because that just couldn't happen anymore. Still freaked out the man took the knife to his side when he tried to stand up, running off just as quickly when he heard someone else within the dark alley walls.

The noise woke her with a start and she sat up quickly, alert and ready. But it was just Briareos and so she relaxed and blinked against the awfulness of having her eyes open. She'd taken off his jacket and some point, and replaced it with a t-shirt she'd found on the floor. It was dirty and smelled like him, which made her uncomfortable, but she hadn't wanted to wake him up to find something in his room properly.

Her mouth tasted awful and she swallowed a few times, blinking at him. "How you feelin?"

"Terrible." He cracked his neck, flopping his head against the back of the couch and to the side where he could look at her without straining to hold his head up himself. "Thought you'd be out by morning." It was mid-afternoon, but he didn't even know the time.

"Said I'd come back," Ky said a little defensively. "Wanted to see if you were going to wake up."

She leaned over the back of the couch and grabbed his keys, dropping them into his lap. "Your shop's clean and unsuspicious. Whoever went to work there this morning will have no idea."

Braireos dropped his hand into his lap, putting a finger into the keyring. He basic motor functions were still slow. He could say thank you, he had once before when she saved his life the first time. Now it seemed she was getting into the habit of doing it, only this time she actually meant to. He rolled his head back forward looking up from the keys to where she stood. "Things have changed." Things had changed between them.

Kymopoleia crossed her arms slowly. She could have pretended that she didn't know what he was talking about. But she knew perfectly well what he meant. Things had changed, and she knew it wasn't just tonight. Tonight just seemed like the most recent and, yes, biggest one. But whatever this was, this shifting relationship between them, it had been building for a while now.

Eventually she just quietly said, "Yeah."

"What do we do now?" Did they avoid each other until by chance the world threw them at each other again. Months seemed to pass, each time getting a little longer. What he was to her was a little more important to him now because his livelihood depended on it. Now, she was part of what made him strong and not just fade away.

Ky sighed and then dropped down onto the couch as well, leaving a good amount of space between the two of them. "We don't do anything," she said. "Just because we're not actively trying to destroy each other..." she let the sentence trail off. Just because they weren't trying to destroy each other... well, it didn't have to mean anything more than that.

But she could still smell his burned and blistered skin from the way she'd saved his life. That wasn't not trying to destroy each other. That had been going out of her way to keep him alive and here.

The last time she had saved his life, no matter how she viewed it had resonated with him. This time though it was different. She didn't accidentally pull a trigger that freed him. She could have let him drown in his own blood without batting an eye, then he would be wiped out of her life if he came back at all. They were much lesser known creatures in these times. There wasn't a strong force holding them down. "You would have let me die then." She brought him back from the claws of hades itself. At times he now he would have wanted her to to end this almost useless shell of what he'd been before. But now, it was as if she made him believe otherwise.

For the first time she didn't see the monster.

"Yep," she agreed, leaning forward on the couch to rest her elbows on her knees, picking at the blood under her nails. "I would have killed you myself if I'd been strong enough." It disturbed and uneased her that she'd saved him, and that she couldn't fully understand why.

That couch with her on it seemed so much smaller than usual. "So why didn't you?" This time she was stronger than him. Their roles had reversed, so ridding him of her life once and for all seemed to always be on her list. She loathed him more than she ever had her own father. Why the change?

Ky stood up then, glaring at him. "Look, dude, I don't know, alright? I could have left you there in that alley and I didn't, I fixed you up and fed you and made sure you lived and I don't know why."

He kept asking questions as if she had a better answer than himself. They were both just as clueless as the other. Conversations were not their strong point, especially when foreign feelings were involved. He didn't have the proper brain power to engage her further now. "So then go." He knew she didn't wish to be there any longer now...but then something curious sprang to mind. So, she saved him but why was she there in the first place? "Why were you there?"

Oh that was nice. She patched him up and now he just wanted her to fuck off. Typical.

"I was coming to see you," she said to him, sounding a little annoyed that he didn't already get that. "I saw a woman with a tattoo that I thought might be yours. When she talked about the creepy skinny guy who did it, I took a guess that I was right."

He wasn't sure what to do with her. They were in his space, she had altered the world as he understood it between them and Briareos honestly didn't know where to go from there.

"Oh," he seemed a little stunned, but it was perhaps an opportunity to force them together again. "Were you looking to get one?"

[ooc:the idea of him tattooing her is kinda adorable and erotic and crazy for some reason]

Ky scoffed at that. "Was I coming here to let you leave a permanent mark on me? No, I really wasn't. I was just coming to... well, I guess I was just coming to see how you were doing for yourself." She shrugged. "It was a nice tattoo."

Ky herself didn't have any tattoos, her pale skin as clear of markings as it had always been. She liked it that way.

[Might happen someday, we'll see!]

He washed his hands over his arms. "Sometimes makes me feel like they're still there..." his arms. It was why he marked his body, each tattoo representing every limb he'd lost. Making him not feel so frail and small. After the night before there was a slim chance of hope that he might retain some of what he once was, but he was getting used to what he was now. For the first time ever.

The confession made Ky feel a little uncomfortable. They weren't people who shared thoughts and feelings, although maybe now they were? How could anyone tell what they were anymore, after the last twenty-four hours.

She looked down at her feet, because it was easier than looking at him. A part of her was pleased by his vulnerability. All this weakness of his felt good to her. She had discovered she didn't want him to die, but she sure as Hades didn't want him to be stronger than her again.

Briareos wasn't even used to talking let alone dwell on petty things like feelings. He'd never had to deal with any other than anger, but loneliness, bitterness, worthlessness it was as new as these feelings that were not of hate and fear. When she didn't speak he sat there awkwardly, shifting in his seat.
