Entry tags:peleus, thetis

Who: Thetis and Peleus
What: It's a reunion! Sort of.
When: Mid-June
Where: A bar in Toledo, OH
Warnings: TBD

Thetis had been quite enjoying her travelling over the past months. She had no time constraints, nothing keeping her in any one city for too long, and conversely, nothing to prevent her from staying as long as she wished.

Her driving had brought her to Toledo yesterday, and she'd walked around the city for a few hours, taking in some of the sights and local cuisine. She had a feeling, though, that she might not be staying too long. Nothing against the city, it just wasn't reaching out and grabbing her like others had.

That didn't mean, however, that she couldn't stay another night and have a few drinks. Which is precisely what she was doing, nursing a martini and enjoying the atmosphere of the bar, as well as the glances her short, sea-green dress drew from some of the patrons.

Peleus had been passing through town on his way into Pennsylvania. He'd been out for the summer, taking a short leave from coaching to spent some time on his own. He'd walked in for a drink. It was late, he didn't expectuch of anyone to be in what was basically a truck driver's pit stop. The fancy green dress and the pretty face it was attached too seemed out of place.

Peleus also wasn't very good at making Goo-Goo eyes at pretty women. He didn't fumble he just seemed a little stiff. He sat down the bar from her at a distance, trying to write her story in his head before finding out who she really was. He said the bartender to send her another drink on him. He raised his own bottle of beer with a nod of his head when she looked over. It was a start. It didn't mean he'd finish.

When the second drink appeared before she'd even finished her first, she looked up to see where it might have come from. The man at the other end of the bar nodded at her, and she smiled, raising her glass back at him. He was cute, too, she noticed that. Still, something about him said to be a little wary.

That didn't mean she couldn't be polite, though. She gathered up her bag and moved down the bar to sit next to him. "Thank you," she said, sipping her drink. "It's been a while since anyone bought me a drink."

"That seems surprising," he said giving her a single look, but he didn't ogle her. That was too obvious. "I didn't expect to see a pretty face in here. This looks like a sleepy town." Whatever feelings she had in respect to him he had similar ones towards her but not out of wariness. There was just something different about her.

"Ah, I can't disagree there," she replied. "I'm just passing through myself, I think tonight will be my last night here. There's too much to see of this country, staying in a place that doesn't exactly mesh with my interests doesn't make much sense."

"Oh, just traveling around the country, or are you headed somewhere specific?" He was a little more curious with this one which should have pulled a red flag right away. He normally failed at these sort of things. Once he caught a girl he failed at keeping them interested when he was said too rigid. His conversation was a little like a hook with no bait.

"I've been traveling for quite a while," she replied. "Nothing tying me down at home, and I've wanted to take a road trip for some time. I go wherever I feel like going, and I stay as little or as long as I like." She took another sip of her drink, leaning back in her chair.

"What about you?" she asked. "Not from around here?"

"No family or kids?" He was asking such basic things to get some kind of feel for who she was. It should have been more obvious than that but it had been a long time since he had run into anyone he knew.

"No, I'm not. I'm headed up to Pennsylvania." He liked the countryside. He'd lived there for five years some time ago, so even though he had moved to the city about 6 months ago he liked going back to visit his old hometown.

"A son, but he's grown and doesn't need me so much anymore," she replied, signalling for another drink. "And a sister, but she has her own family and a new baby, and they keep her plenty busy."

She nodded. "I visited Pittsburgh and Philadelphia a week or so ago, it was nice," she said. "Everyone I met insisted I had to try a real Philly cheese steak while I was there, and it was rather delicious." It wasn't too bad, talking with him about her trip. It wasn't anything more personal than she'd share with someone in line at the grocery store, or something. And, if she was being honest, it was nice to have someone to talk to. The open road, for all that it was crawling with cars, was more often than not quiet except for her radio.

It could have been the alcohol that had her speaking freely. It could be any number of things. He let it just roll off her tongue. He wasn't going to stop it, he'd just use what pieces he could to build together who she was. It was starting to irritate him that he couldnt put his finger on it.

"Seem awfully young for a grown son." That meant at least one thing. She was immortal like himself. She couldn't be a day over 25. " he smiled waving to the bartender to bring him another bottle of beer. "And philly cheesesteak really is that good. It's a good thing you didnt pass it up. I would be upset to hear." She kept talking so he tried for a little deeper. Of she clipped his wings back now he'd just go for another round. "So, this son of yours what's he do that he can't go with his mother on a road trip?"

She turned a keen gaze to meet his, not quite so drunk that she would miss a comment like that. "The passage of time has been good to me," she said simply. "Let me keep a youthful glow." Gods, but sometimes she tired of dancing around the issue.

A small smile tugged at one corner of her mouth. "Something tells me you would have gotten through it," she said. "There's so many places up there claiming to be the original, it's really easier to just close your eyes, spin around, and point. But I definitely wasn't disappointed, in any case."

"He directs films, acts in them occasionally," she replied. "He's just needed some time to himself this past year, so this trip has done the double duty of giving him some space."

"Yeah, I'm built to take quite a lot." He looked like a footballer. It was definitely an advantage. "I would have been okay, just really disappointed."

He listened carefully as she described her son. Something told him he should have known who it was. "Oh? Would I know him? Big name or just getting his feet wet." There were a lot of people in the business that were easily overlooked. Bit by that smile on her face he didn't think that was the case..

She couldn't help it, she let out a little snort of laughter. "Yes, I can see that," she said, gesturing vaguely in a way meant to encompass his entire person. She patted his arm. "Fear not, I had my fill of cheese steak and some good memories of Philly."

"Oh, he's been around for a while now," she said, proud of Achilles' accomplishments, as always. "Adrianus Leventis, he's done a few things that did very well."

"I am pleased to hear it," he gave a sturdy grin swigging down some of his beer.

She did sound like a proud mother---that wouldn't have been the first one he would ever meet. At the name it sorta rang a bell. The face was very similar to her, so that could have been where the familiarity came from. There was still something else about her that was niggling away inside. "Ah, that nominated film a few years back. Sabine was it?" He'd seen it plastered on the side of a bus.

"That's the one," she agreed. "It was his all-consuming project, I've seen it several times. I think I even have a copy on DVD in a box in storage. He's just so talented, but then again, I'm probably biased."

She waved one hand, setting her bangles to tinkling. "But anyway. Tell me a bit about you, what do you do?"

"You have beat me on that one. I'm pretty sure I've only made it through once," he waved up a single finger from being wrapped around the neck of his bottle. "It was good what I do remember of it." Though considering it was his own son (which he did not realize), he should have remembered the whole thing.

"What do I do? Well, I'm a college football coach. Nothing exciting there is there?"

"To each their own," she acquiesced. "He makes what he likes and what he knows, and I'll admit it's not always everyone's cup of tea."

"I think that, as long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters," she replied. "I used to teach Marine Microbiology. Not terribly exciting to others, perhaps, but I love the sea, and sharing my love and knowledge with others, so it was perfect for me."

A lot of what she said pointed to his past. Loved the sea, had a son she spoke of with pride. He should have known right then and there who he was talking to, but he was more focused on the way she glowed when she talked. It was a glistening like the sun creating the top of the ocean. "What happened? You said used to teach?"
