Who: Piper Addison, cameos by Nikkie & Vlad Tepes (Open to Veronica, Lena, Charles, Cassandra, and Jacob Grimm)
What: Bloody vampires
When: Thursday night/really early Friday morning
Where: Bar, NY streets, an alley, hospital
Warnings: Vlad, TBD

Normally, Piper didn't go out during the week. It was a leftover habit from her school schedule, and even if she didn't have school, she likely worked the next day. But school was over until the end of August, and she only had one life, so it wasn't terribly hard for Nikkie to convince her to come out when she called.

She'd gotten dressed and left a note for Charles, locking up behind her and getting a taxi to the bar Nikki had suggested. The two of them managed to wile away a good four hours over drinks and dinner, talking and laughing and just enjoying each other's company. The night only ended when Piper looked at her phone and realized that it was coming up on 2 a.m., and both of them had to work the next day.

They hugged goodbye in front of the bar, turning in opposite directions for their respective homes. There were still a fair number of taxis out and about, but none of them stopped, no matter how hard she waved her arms. After the fourth one sped by without appearing to notice her at all, she cursed and stomped her foot. There was a subway stop a few blocks away, she was pretty sure. She hadn't had that much to drink, she could make it. She double-checked the information on her phone, then started off in the right direction.

She was only about two blocks away, when she caught one of her heels on a crack in the sidewalk. She managed not to fall, but her ankle hurt like a bitch. Leaning against a nearby wall, she gingerly slipped off her shoe, shining her phone's flashlight on her foot. Nothing looked broken or bleeding, and if she had to hobble, well then, so be it. She put her phone away and her shoe back on, ready to head back onto the street and head home.

She never got the chance. A hand clamped itself around her arm, and another went over her mouth. She struggled and tried to claw at her attacker's arms, but it didn't seem to do any good at all. She let out a muffled scream when she felt teeth sink into her neck, fear making her heart beat faster as blood trickled down her neck. As he drank more, her struggles got weaker and her vision got cloudy. Eventually, he let her go, letting her fall to the floor of the alley in a heap.

It was a garbage collector who found her, lying on the floor of the alley. He couldn't tell her apart from the black plastic bags at first, but as night gave way to the gray light of dawn, he could see her more clearly.

"Jesus Christ," he breathed, pulling out his phone and calling 911. He knelt down beside her, feeling for a pulse, and his own heart almost stopped when he found one. Weak and thready, true, but still there. He stayed with her until the ambulance came, holding her hand as she drifted in and out of consciousness.

The last thing she remembered was the bright white interior of the ambulance, and a light shining in her eyes. Then nothing. Nothing at all until she woke up in the hospital, almost a full day later. Her memory was fuzzy and she'd lost a lot of blood, and the doctors said she was lucky to be alive.

"Is there anyone we can call?" her doctor asked.

"You better call Nikkie and V," she said. "And Charles. And Lena. They're all in my phone. Which is...wherever my bag is." She gestured at the counter across the room. "In the zip pocket inside."

The doctor made the calls, and Piper drifted off again. They'd come eventually, one at a time, or all of them at once, but in the meantime, she was going to get some sleep.

"Oh I'm not going anywhere!" Lena informed Piper. "Even if you did sleep, Charles and I could play guard dog. I don't know how good he'd be in a fight, but I know shit."

Charles laughed. "I could pull my gloves off and hit people dramatically with them."

That image made her smile. "I'd feel safe sleeping, knowing you two were standing guard," she said. "And I would turn into the worst patient if they tried to throw you out."

"Then we'll stay as long as they'll let us," Charles promised.

"Hell yeah we will. Or one of us could go get you some books or something if they would help." Lena just wanted to make everything better.

"Good," she said, pleased. "Oh, now that you mention, I would love having my Kindle. Lord knows if I'll stay awake long enough to finish something, but that's about the only thing I can think of."

"I'll get it if you're okay with me rifling though your things," Lena laughed. "And if you'll let me in your house," she said to Charles.

"Of course, I see no problem with that."

Piper waved one hand. "I'm pretty sure that nothing I own will shock you," she said, laughing. "So yeah, rifle away."
