As much as she complained, Brynhildr did enjoy her job. It wasn't anything like what she'd used to do, but it wasn't playing glorified barmaid and that was always a plus. But today tended to mean some families were guilted enough to visit their wounded, so she spend a lot of time doing that. She knew it wasn't fair to think so ill of some of them. She knew people who were in day after day, like one man who had his partner here. He'd told her now it was legal, they had wanted to marry, but with his love in a coma he could only sit and watch. She felt honestly bad for him, so she'd let him stay longer then was strictly allowed. There were good ones.
But for every one of those they had two that refused to visit, or scowled at the patients for fighting a war their leaders had said was just. She'd seen it before, and she was sure she'd see it again. And those she wanted to put her sword through. In her opinion all of these boys (because some of them were just children) had long ago earned Valhalla, even if their government disagreed.
So she did what she could to make their lives easier. As she walked her rounds she felt immortal. Half hoping it would be Charon, she followed it. She buried the twinge of disappointment when she found a blond man speaking to a patient, and smiled to the patient and continuing her routine check ups while trying to study the blond man. Sometimes she could be curious.
