Who: Eurydice and Orpheus
When: Friday evening, just after sunset
Where: Central Park
What: Orpheus and Eurydice meet again in life, but things don't go as they should.
Warnings: Draaaaaaaaamaaaaaa. Language not expected.

After the previous night, Eurydice was not looking forward to going to work the following evening. She didn't want to have to walk again and possibly run into another crazy immortal who thought she was someone she wasn't. Her mind was on that strange meeting, even if she would rather forget all about it. He had said it was a compliment, but she wasn't sure herself. Compliments came in different forms, but she didn't know that man at all to judge.

As she took a shortcut through Central Park a sweet melody hit her eardrums. She stopped, feeling suddenly breathless. She knew that tune. So many times it had been played to her. Just her. Something so sweet and delicate it was impossible to forget.

Heart pounding with a sudden excitement, she hurried in the direction of the music. Her feet didn't move fast enough and yet she stumbled a little over herself as she hurried along the sidewalk. When at last she found the source of such sweetness she stopped and stared. He was beautiful. He looked only a little different but she knew in her heart who he was. There was no doubting it.

So she approached with a slight dance in her step, a gentle smile on her lips as she quietly watched and listened to the music that should not be interrupted.

	Eurydice swallowed heavily. Was this really happening? She was reaching the desire to shake some sense into him. "No. I know exactly who you are. Orpheus, it's me. Eurydice." By now the crowd had cleared out so at least there wouldn't be any gasping from anyone listening in. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	She was immortal then. To know that name and to say it so freely. She wasn't his Eurydice though. "You aren't Eurydice," he said painfully, ready to walk away. His chest heaved with hurt, she was only making it worse. His eyes glistened but not with happiness. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"I am not joking. This is cruel." He felt his chest tighten. Now, for days he would be wrapped in her memory and have false hope. His grip tightened on his violin case. "I'm sorry, but you couldn't be my Eurydice." He bowed politely and stepped aside. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Her own grip tightened on his arm. She had to prove who she was, somehow. "I've hardly changed at all, can't you see? How can you not see? Please," she begged, as though that single word could fix this.

When his arm slipped away from her grasp she moved closer again, this time placing her hands on either side of his face. "Orpheus, look at me. Take a good look. Only one other person would know that song so well. You have to know it's me."

	He stiffened at her touch, grabbing her wrists gently to pull her away. "Stop," he insisted, "Don't do this to me." It was too painful. He looked right at her, but he didn't see what she wanted him to see. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

She just stared at him in shock. Something had to have happened to him. There was no other explanation. Something happened to make him forget her face. Her Orpheus would have never forgotten her without some sort of intervention. Only then did she realize she was crying, the tears coming steadily as she felt her heart shattering. "Orpheus," she said quietly through a sob.

	His own tears started to glisten his face again, his voice choked. "I'm sorry," he whispered pulling away. She was hurt and he didn't mean to make it worse, but this was a cruel joke. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Before she would have never run from him. What reason did she have? But now, she was so hurt and distraught that she couldn't stay and continue trying to convince him. She was much too worked up. There was nothing left to say. She just found the path and hurried along it, practically running and sobbing as she went. (Reply to this) (Parent)
