Who: Oedipus and The Sphinx
What: Old hermit is on the verge of mental catastrophe! Who better to talk to than the man-eating Sphinx!
When: Monday afternoon
Where: Oedipus' pawn/antique shop
Oedipus was fidgety today. He'd dropped at least three valuable pieces while moving things back and forth. The shop was a mess. He'd spent the better half of the morning cleaning it up and throwing out. He wasn't sure where the cleaning spree came from but it had everything to do with Jocasta. She was quiet. Antigone was quiet. Meanwhile he was sitting in his own prison not sure where to turn next. Cleaning up gave him some head space.
This situation was just going drastically downhill fast. The fact that things were quiet meant someone was waiting to drop the ball. He'd knocked boots with his mother again, the consequences in that were hanging by a thread. It was the waiting and knowing that had him all out of sorts. Last time he'd just been plain oblivious. This was torture. The worst part of it was he still thought of Jocasta every day in ways that just were not natural. They weren't ever going to go away, but waking up with a sexual fantasy with her face stuck to it always gave him a heart attack in the morning (among other things).
Rummaging through the jewelry chest he muttered under his breath. The calico kitten was now a full grown cat, still right up under his feet while he tried to find things to do with business slow. He almost welcomed people to come in, talking a mile a minute because anyone stepping inside got his mind of Jocasta for at least five minutes, but today had been excruciatingly slow. The calico darted off as quickly as she'd curled around his feet. She had a habit playing with the Sphinx every morning like a daily ritual. She'd grown quite content with the monstrous cat-woman. When she darted off again like a bullet she was hoping to be chased. Up under Oedipus' feet she went making him fall to his knees.
"Fucking....run you stupid little beast!" he shook his fist at the orange, white and black streak that seemed to laugh at him from a distance. He flopped on his back staring up at the ceiling.
It was definitely a Monday.
