Who: Hypnos & Morpheus
What: ACK D:
When: Monday afternoon-ish
Where: Hypnos' dreams
Hypnos had been enjoying his sleep, not taking much notice of what passed in the waking world, even in dreams. There were usually signs of when it was close to time for him to wake up, it got harder for him to maintain a hold in the dream world, and it became more out of focus, like looking at it through a filter.
Today, however, it was still as clear as the day he went to sleep, and Hypnos knew that was a Bad Thing. He knew he was supposed to wake up soon, but his body wasn't getting that tug back to consciousness that he knew so well. And that unnerved him, because that wasn't supposed to happen. Not again. Not after last time.
"Morpheus!" he called, standing in a field and turning slowly. "Morpheus, King of Dreams, brother, wherever you are, I need to speak with you!"

Morpheus was busily sending a monster made of teeth and legs through someone's nightmare when he heard his brother call out. The other dream quickly forgotten, he appeared before Hpynos, poppies blooming around them both.
"Hypnos, what's wrong?" Morpheus tilted his head. "Shouldn't you be waking up?"

"Supposed to be, but not doing so, for some reason," Hypnos replied, tense and agitated. "I should be slowly regaining consciousness, but it's just...it's not happening. I even cut back on the caffeine and the sugar so I wouldn't crash so hard. I just don't understand..."
He trailed off as he remembered what Nyx had said. His eyes widened, and he ran his hands through his hair, making it stick up in all directions. "Mother. She's probably breaking down my door right now, scaring Thea half to death. And Thanatos will be worried when he finds out. When you wake up, can you get them a message for me?"

"Of course," Morpheus said. Brow furrowed, he circled his brother, trying to feel out if something was wrong. He didn't notice any particular interference; there was no reason Hpynos should not be awake. "This is very strange."

"Just tell Thea not to panic, tell Mom not to eat Thea alive, since this isn't her fault, and tell Thanatos not to panic," he rattled off. They were the ones who needed to be communicated with the most. "Oh, and Hecate too. We don't need an angry Mom and a worried Titan in the same place. It'll only end badly."
"Tell me about it," he muttered. "I'm not sick, I'm not crashing too hard, I honestly cannot think of any reason that I should still be here." He collapsed into the poppies. "It's just weird."

Morpheus nodded, disappearing abruptly and leaving his brother alone in the dreamworld.
He staggered over to the computer to type out Hypnos' message, re-typing it a few times to eliminate some of the typos brought on by sleepiness. When he was satisfied, he let himself slump back down onto the desk and slip back into sleep.
"Done," he said, reappearing next to Hypnos. "Have you made anyone angry?"

Hypnos sagged a bit in relief. "Thank you," he told Morpheus, looking up at him from his poppy-covered resting place. "One less thing to worry fruitlessly over."
He tilted his head, thinking. "Not anyone that springs to mind immediately," he said at last. "I mean, I might have without meaning to, but generally I try and avoid pissing people off."

"Even if you had angered someone, sleep is still your domain," Morpheus said, settling down cross-legged next to Hypnos. He tapped his fingers on his knee, thinking. "This doesn't make any sense at all. You better not be about to die."

Hypnos let out a weak laugh. "You'd think that someone would have mentioned that, given that our brother and sisters are Death, and more sisters are Fate," he said. "Maybe Thanatoa was right. Maybe I didn't cut back soon enough. Maybe I'm doing it subconsciously. Gods only know how I managed to get ensnared by my own powers. It just doesn't make any sense."

"If you die, I will never forgive you," Morpheus said, ignoring the logic in Hypnos' words in favor of making sure he knew how much trouble he would be in if he died. "I will go to the Underworld and bring you back personally and lecture you the entire time."
He sighed and summoned one of the cloud dogs over to him, digging his fingers into the soft fur. He was not used to having nervous energy. The dog settled down between him and Hypnos, wagging its tail happily. "We'll find out what's happening. Between the two of us, no one knows more about sleep."

Hypnos managed a small, more genuine smile at that. "I know, I know," he said. "Eternal lectures, being dragged out by my ear, never letting me hear the end of it, etc. Although you might have to get in line behind Thanatos and his mother henning under the guise of worrying about his twin."
He scratched the cloud dog between its ears as he thought. "Maybe it's my way of telling myself I need to up the sleeping to more than once a year," he said, thinking aloud more than anything. "Maybe one week out of the year just isn't enough. Maybe two or three, or even four times would be better. Gods know it certainly couldn't hurt."

"I've never known how you can survive on so little sleep," Morpheus said. "Though I've been told I have the metabolism of a sloth. A few extra days of sleep couldn't hurt, though."
