On the whole, Kat tried not to be in the States for long. Ever since she'd been old enough to understand, her mother had set her down and explained about her grandfather. Not just what he was, but what he did. To say Kat had been left horrified had been an understatement. She'd tried to contact her grandfather when she'd been younger but it had ended in tears.
But when she started her schooling it took her to the States, and without change her grandfather was there to talk to her. She never wanted any part of it. No matter how much he spoiled her, or tried to. She never took money. There was too much blood on it, and too many strings fixed to it.
So she stayed in Australia, and only came back when needed. She always tried coming in under the radar, fake names and all that, but he always found her. And always tried to buy her affection. But she always kept hope. Even this trip. Mainly because she'd earned a spot in M.I.T's lab, on her own merit and not her grandfather's money, and not even family drama could keep her from it.
But she still sighed defeatedly when she saw the figure, and pushed the shades on her eyes before warily trudging to it. "I thought I asked you not to come pick me up?"
