As usual George made a few scribbled squiggles, her own personal shorthand that recorded Miranda's comments, and in particular her body language, as she spoke about her previous marriage and divorce.
"What had been your attitude toward marriage before your first one?" she asked. Ascertaining what people thought of marriage was a tricky road sometimes, and others it took little interpretation to reveal the true attitude and beliefs. Miranda appeared to be an intelligent, liberated woman with educated views and a belief system that didn't seem to pin much emotional baggage to the situation she was in. At least not on the surface.
But then who really knew what was going on beneath the surface in most people's minds. It's what drew George to writing in the first place, after Gerry had died and she needed to get down what she'd gone through, what she'd thought, and experienced, and then ended up using to write her first novel, all of which had been released under a pseudonym.
"And do you think that experience influenced your reaction to being drawn in the marriage lottery? The fact you'd been married and divorced?"
