Nana almost didn't want to leave, but she went with her mother into the house, into the bedroom she'd share with John and changed out of her kimono into a light white dress. Then she sat down on the edge of the bed to nurse Rose.
"He seems very nice," her mother said, carefully wrapping the kimono in paper before placing it carefully in a dress box. She seemed like a no-nonsense woman, but she was smiling pleasantly as she did this. Nana nodded in agreement.
"He is very nice. I'm very happy..." She hesitated, then smoothed Rose's hair down lightly. She remembered that he had said she looked like a kitsune, and she laughed a bit at the memory. She did, didn't she? She looked at her mother then with a smile.
"John wants to adopt Rose," she said, adjusting her top when Rose was done feeding. She patted her back, then handed her a new, clean pacifier. She hoped her mother would approve.
The older woman put the lid on the kimono's box and shut it with a snap. "Well, I should hope so," she said, placing the box into their closet.
Nana smiled widely at that. She had hoped, but she hadn't expected such a matter-of-fact response! It made her feel great, though, to know that her mother approved of it. She then stood with Rose in her arms and walked back outside and took her seat next to John.
