The wedding was beautiful, and Nana was sure she would remember each detail of it for the rest of her life. It was almost like a dream - Surreal, not actually happening... But then she kissed his cheek and laid her head on his shoulder, and it felt just right. This was what she had needed in her life, more than anything else... Someone to stay with her, to share the happiness and the sadness, to be with and to rely on, someone to take care of and someone to be taken care of by.
She returned the kiss, shyly at first, but settled into his naturally, pulling away just briefly before kissing him again. She didn't mind that people would see, not now. It was their wedding day. And from some friends and relatives there was clapping, and she laughed lightly and blushed and brushed a small tear from her cheek. She felt silly, but any amount of embarrassment couldn't make her unhappy today.
"John," she said, lovingly. He looked so handsome, though he always did, but today it was special. She closed her eyes and leaned against him, feeling contented like she hadn't in ages. Things were looking up, getting better every day, and even with all the stress and trouble that would lie ahead... She squeezed his hand again and sighed happily. He would be there through it all with her.
She opened her eyes and looked across the table, smiling brightly at Rose, who sat in her mother-in-law's arms with a pacifier, slowly falling asleep. Though she was still small, she was in the healthy weight range and seemed to be doing well despite everything. Her eyes were showing signs of vision trouble, but that was to be expected. She was still a happy baby, developing as she should, and so far as healthy as they could have hoped for.
Nana felt that she couldn't be happier - A wonderful husband, a healthy daughter. There wasn't more she could ask for.
