"Dana, put your pack here honey, next to the others, then go help gather," George said as her youngest child almost wandered off with her pack still on her back. The pink beanie bobbed its way across the clearing, the pink backpack quickly joining the others and her boots kicking up the few pine needles scattered on the ground as she ran off to join her siblings in the family tradition of wood gathering as soon as they arrived.
It was something Gerry and George had learned early on, with Andy and Anita. Sometimes they were a great help, but sometimes their sibling rivalry was more a hinderance in preparing the site, and to get them settled it was best to use those rivalries to collect wood for the fire. She was just starting to unpack the few utensils they brought for cooking, each child's bag containing their own cutlery, bowl and mug when she heard a yowl, her whole body straightening as she spun in the direction the sound had come from. Gerry's voice drifted down as he called out to Andy, the ten year old twin having been the one who cried out, and Anita's voice finally answered.
"He's OK Dad, just got a big dose of fraidy cat!" George relaxed, the tone of Anita's voice confirming it wasn't anything serious. Or at least it hadn't been, unless Andy took a dislike to his twin calling him a fraidy cat which could mean they were going to be in for an interesting night as he tried to get back at his sister.
With a soft laugh of resignation she crouched down again to get on with the unpacking, only looking up when the sound of returning feet signalled the arrival back to the site of her family...
