She really shouldn't have been surprised to see her name on the lottery roll, but somehow, she was. It had been Stephen who'd called to tell her; she'd been in bed, book propped on her lap, Edward lying on her feet. She'd sworn ferociously--Stephen had laughed at her for that--pulled her laptop to her, and checked. Robin Yarmovsky. Of course the name was familiar: he was Nikolai Yarmovsky's son. Stephen had a deep and abiding dislike for the elder Yarmovsky, given the man's crusade against homosexuality. Miranda herself didn't have much appreciation for it either. But she was willing to cut Robin some slack; he was not necessarily like his father.
If he was, well then. Their lives might be more difficult than necessary.
Stephen had promised to do some information gathering--Miranda had been so pleased he'd decided to come back to work for her--and she had a folder on her desk along with a chai tea the next morning. Between appointments, she'd read about Robin Nikolayevich Yarmovsky; knowledge was power, and she liked power.
At 10.50, she pulled up to the Fairmont Olympian and gave her car to the parking valet. She wore red, as she'd promised, and the heels of her shoes put her over six feet tall. Of course Stephen's file had been thorough, and had included pictures, so she knew what to expect.
Tall, very handsome, broad-shouldered, with charmingly floppy brown hair, Robin stood by the restaurant entrance, wearing a nicely-tailored black suit and blue tie, and holding red roses. It was sweetly old-fashioned, and Miranda smiled. He'd been looking for her, obviously, and his attention centered on her as she walked toward him, her head high and shoulders squared.
"Robin Yarmovsky," Miranda said warmly as she came to a halt before him. She offered her hand. "I'm Miranda Reeves."
