Without fail, a grin broke the fussing facade, and Aaron pushed himself up to sit on the table while Jayden walked into the kitchen to pull down their plates. Food. The pangs of hunger were kicking up again, and the proximity to food had a tendency to make it worse. "I'm a pretty forgiving guy, so I'll let you off the hook."
Aaron was watching Jayden during the retrieval, but when the plate came soaring (he hadn't been paying that much attention), he was taken off guard, feeling a split-second fear of missing the catch. No crash came, however, and quite like a reflex (a flailing one, but a reflex all the same), Aaron reached out and grabbed the plate securely, freezing just a moment for a small sigh of relief. Safe. Turning back to face his friend, the fleeting nervousness never broke the lopsided smile, and Aaron stuck out a confident thumbs-up.
"I appreciate your trust. So what did you get?" he asked, setting the plate down safely on the table and peeking into the bag next to him.
