"I would suggest trying again," Leon said. "Sometimes it's a lot easier for you to describe how you feel in the moment than later, in retrospect. It could help me gain insight that can aid with your treatment. Even if you don't show me the journals, which you will not need to if you don't feel like it, you at least would be able to articulate your feelings easier than you otherwise would."
He rummaged through the file for a moment and pulled a piece of paper out. He wrote on it and as he did so, said, "I'd like for you to get in touch with your old doctor, if it's possible, so that I can gain access to your treatment information. I'm willing to renew your prescription for one more month's supply, with no refills. I want to see you regularly and get to know you better before I do more - and I would also like to see your previous doctor's notes." It was standard to request these. Not necessary, but seeing where an old doctor left off was always helpful.
