She put her glass down and bent over so her head touched his hand. Jeff didn't know what to say, so he settled on sharing the moment with Grace. A moment of dealing with their own knowledge of history. A moment of considering how bad it really could get, given the direction the American government had chosen when it came to the fertility crisis.
Given what had already happened to Grace and Gabe and so many others. An attempt at intimidating the people into a silent, immobilizing terror.
Jeff looked into her eyes and saw the fear as she spoke of it. He knew that the fear in his own eyes was just as visible.
"Then... we have to do something. Something that will make it difficult to silence us. Something perfectly legal." He shook his head and drained his glass, tipping his head back and gulping the wine with quick, deep swallows. After five bobs of his Adam's apple, he righted his head, set the glass down and looked back at Grace.
"I just don't know what it is yet. Talk to Dan and... we'll go from there."
