Rahel had told the real estate agent she would return the keys to the agency when they were done. He had her name, phone number and current address, should it be needed, but she had explained she felt better looking at the apartment by herself. Alone. So that she could say what she pleased and criticized what she wanted without needing to censor herself, she'd opted to leave the university a bit earlier than usual and take a detour on her way to the apartment. It had brought her up to speed on the area as much as given her time to reflect.
Teja had her baby now and she could probably use some help, Jasper or no Jasper, but she didn't want to intrude. Her cousin was set in her ways, always had been, even as a child, and to attempt to change them was to go to war with a dragon. She had no interest in fighting Teja.
The engine shut off, Rahel stepped out of the car and cursed the gust of wind that sent hair flying into her face. She brushed it aside and stepped onto the sidewalk, measuring the building with her eyes. Second floor, on the left. The windows were bare and presumably so would the interior be. So far, she wasn't impressed.
To get out of the wind, she made her way inside, unlocking the front door with the shorter of two keys. Alexander wasn't there yet, but he would be. She resolved to wait.
