There was something about the calm way in which she stated that she didn't want an annulment. Something about the way she asked if he'd have a problem with that.
Something that said she was trying to make him the difficult party, maybe get rid of him that way. 'The boy was difficult and refused', she could say.
Alex looked down at his hands. Or maybe she just wanted to... lie back and think of England, as the saying went, and didn't want to pay the lawyer bill. Alex was extremely well read.
