"Yes, I have no desire to have my personality rearranged into one of their choosing, so I complied as well. One of my brothers is currently fighting the system, and I fear that one day they'll simply become tired of him and toss him into re-education. The thought of that fine mind of his scrambled--it's almost physically painful to contemplate."
Noah rocked back into his chair. "I'm glad that you know Jae-Mi's new husband. She and I became friendly, and I worried a bit as to what sort of man she'd be paired with. It's a relief to know that she's with someone decent, someone you know and evidently trust."
His cell vibrated, but kicked the caller to voice mail, so Noah paid it no heed.
"I did want to talk with you regarding my marriage to your mother. Please don't think that I'm going to try and step into your father's shoes. I can't ever do that, and I won't try. But I would like to be your friend, and if you ever want advice for anything, feel free to talk with me. I will help you as much as I'm able." Noah's mouth crooked. "And please, call me Noah, if you're at all able. Calling me Professor Browning just sounds odd, given the circumstances."
