Elsie stared back, hardly able to believe that he had taken her serious. She was about to deny him, spouting off that it was a joke, but she stopped. Why not? Hadn't she been thinking the other day that she would prefer him to anyone else? They got each other. Who else could handle her bitchiness and sexism? It was a way to keep some control in her hands and out of the government's. "You're insane," she said, brows knitting. She couldn't believe what she said next: "And so am I. Hell, why not?
