"In the kitchen!" May called, stepping away from the steam rising from the stove. She didn't know what kind of breakfast Noah planned on bringing home, but it was just as well. Sunday was the day she always reserved for cooking, most of the dishes she would cook that day would be packed away and used for the rest of the week. It kept her hands busy and her mind clear. Steamed vegetables, kimchi, barbecued meat, and fried tofu were prepared and stored in containers.
For her own contribution to the breakfast, she broke from routine and made hoddeok, pancakes made from dough that had been filled with cinnamon and brown sugar. Hearing the door open and Noah's voice snapped her back into the present.
Carrying the plate out to the kitchen table, she smiled at him. They had a bad start, it did her no favors to antagonize. "Do you need a hand?"
