May sat in the living room, watching the light peek through the drawn shades. Glancing forward at the television, she could see her reflection on the dormant screen. She alternated between thinking and not, replaying the events in her head, sometimes with sound sometimes not. In the silence she could clearly picture the expression of Jason's face, his fear. He hadn't returned home in two days, was probably afraid to. May couldn't blame him, she was afraid of seeing him too. But oh, did she wish he would come home. That anyone would, it felt as if she only had Hwarang for company. The cat sat at her side with a quizzical look in her eyes, occasionally pawing at May's thigh for attention.
The knock on the door returned May's attention to the present and Hwarang jumped from the couch cushions to scurry into Jason's room. May stood and combed her fingers through her hair, trying to look a more presentable before opening the door.
"Jae-mi!" May gushed, pulling the younger woman into a tight hug. "So glad you are here. Come in, are you alright? Have you ate? Let me make you something. Sit, sit."
She motioned to the kitchen table as she stepped into the kitchen proper to pull leftovers from the fridge.
