Teja stepped out of her office, her own medical file in hand. She walked over to the desk, briefly interrupting the person who was standing there. A complication from past events, but to be dealt with like everything else on her plate.
"Call a courier and return these back to Dr. Mackey please. I'll show Ms. Yahni around."
Her attention drawn away from the receptionist, Vivian folded her hands into her pockets. "Dr Jansen." It wasn't quite a greeting, just a sign that she remembered who she was and knew her role here. It was her job, after all. "I'll only take a moment of your time."
"I am glad you were able to come," Teja nodded, motioning to the other woman to follow her to her office. "I'm sure you have familiarized yourself with the incidents this facility has had in the past month. We had to let go a large percentage of our security staff."
"It's why I'm here." The incidents, as much as everything else. Once in Teja's office, she made her way to a seat before her desk. "Washington wants this contained."
"Anything that could be done about the media would be appreciated, there have been endless requests for information." Teja said, sitting at her desk and passed the manila folder that rested on the center over to the woman. "Most are in processing but I'd love to have a legal reason to deny them."
Vivian picked up the file, leafing through absently. It wouldn't be novel information, just more precise, more detailed than anything she knew or cared to know. "We'll see what can be done about that. How are you on patient turnover? Sometimes a good distraction is all the media needs."
"Still high at 95%." she said, turning on her computer for verification. "I want to get two or three more percentage points between now and the next nine weeks."
Vivian flicked the folder closed and arched an eyebrow. "Between now and the next... Oh." A pursing of the lips. "Someone on your team?"
"Myself, actually." The corner of Teja's lips turned up with a hint of a smile. "I plan to take enough time to recover, but my leave should not be too long."
Unfortunate, Vivian thought, betraying little of her displeasure, but something to factor in. "The traditional one month or less?" she queried, making a mental note to find out who Dr Jansen's number two was.
"Less, if I can manage." Teja stated, noting the brief change in Vivian's expression but filed it away instead of calling attention to it. "I will rely on you a lot during this time. What I ask of you should not interfere with your directive."
"What you ask of me," Vivian repeated, leaning back in her chair and linking her hands in her lap. "I don't have a PhD, Doctor. I won't be much help with your patients." Although she couldn't help think that direct contact with some would be an interesting experience.
"We have counselors and psychiatrists on staff, what concerns me, as well as our superiors in DC is the lax security protocols."
"I'll have something set up by the time you have to go on leave. Nine weeks is a lot more than I need." Of course, it wasn't her only task, but it was the most pressing. The Readjustment Center had to be a beacon of civilization and aid for the masses. Not a prison. "Have you had any escapes?"
"No escapes." Teja answered honestly, leaning back in her chair. "We have rarely had people readmitted to our facility either. The incidents involving Marco Medina are isolated ones."
"I hope so," she murmured tightly. "They've brought a bad name to the program... and Seattle was already a problem area. I'm going to need a full list of employees with security clearance for the past two years. I trust that won't be a problem, Doctor?"
"Not at all, in fact," Teja pulled out a pad and pencil. "-I will call and make sure that you have clearance to access the files. That way, you will be able to pull whatever information you need."
She had nothing to hide, nor was there anything wrong with the things she had done. Teja wanted to make it clear that she intended to make Vivian into an ally as long as the government did not stand in her way.
