He had a set of keys to the lab at school, so he'd biked there at six am, missing his only sleeping-in day. He hadn't bothered to get a newspaper, and hadn't bothered with the tv for news. One day without keeping up with world events and those more locally wouldn't kill him. He'd stayed at the lab all day, working and writing, raiding the vending machines for terrible snack food. At three he'd returned, showered, began preparing supper, occasionally typing as he went when he thought of something. His laptop still lay closed on the kitchen island. And then Jae-Mi had arrived, bright and fresh and pretty.
He had to admit to himself that it was a definite turn for the better.
