We don't 'own' wildlife. We are surrogate mothers for those who would have no other option, and for species who would be thriving on the planet if not for us. Without the facilities around the world, who try to protect wildlife and support re-introduction programs, and zoos, which do their best to ensure that species continue and that we're educated about their lives, there would be no womb for them to exist and be protected. They would be gone. Any future Human generations would see pictures in books and watch movies about them and look at us and ask, "Why didn't you do something?"
As for children, that's another concern entirely.
