Zoos have a very limited benefit for wildlife in general. Some animals do become interesting for the average visitor, but they are only interesting in so far as they perform the tricks we expect of them. Before, these used to be acting cute and fluffy. In the case of dolphins, hitting a ball with their tail. Nowadays, we expect them to procreate not to ensure the survival of their species but so that we may find reassurance in the cycle of their lives. It's a disappointing reality and not one that I believe should be encouraged. We should be educating our children to appreciate these animals on their own merits, not as reference to our faults as a species.
