Jeff snorted softly. "Politics. My favorite topic. Yeah, that's a conversation we'll have another time. maybe." He raised one eyebrow. "If you survive the rest of the evening with me, that is. You may want to throw me back."
He finished his tea and sighed - again.
"So, we're under the thumbs of the government and have to do what they say or we lose who we are and what we've managed to make out of our lives and get stuck doing it their way, anyway." He shrugged. It was nice to be able to talk to someone about this. He and Daniel talked like this, but Jeff didn't bring politics and the lottery up in many conversations.
"As citizens, what do we do? There's another draw coming up. Do we leave the country, like those who protested participating in the Vietnam war? Flee to Canada and have a bounty on our heads? The alternative is wait and see or find someone and marry them, pronto. Try to gain some control over our lives, even though the direction is the same. It's just... ridiculous."
