Hale Family
The uncle you knew died. A long time ago. Long before you had your shot at it. You can't expect me to be that man again, Peter, you'll just be disappointed. The pain and the control issue is, at least for Erin. ONE night a month, Derek. It would've taken you two minutes to explain hierarchy to the girl during training sessions.
You know, I was trying to keep this between you and me, I was trying not to drag your sister into this. But since you did, I'll speak my point on it. You expect too much from her. You want the 11 year old pre-fire little sister again, and you can't have her. You just can't. It's not that she doesn't exist anymore, but she's buried so far deep behind walls and fences and just shit life experience that it's not going to happen. Cora talks to me. Probably more than she does to you. Do you know why? It's not that she trusts me more than you, she has every reason not to trust me that you do. But the difference, Derek, the difference is I have no expectations. And in a lot of situations, that may be a bad thing, but it's really not in this. You have to stop pressing. Stop trying to force it. Give her time, give her space, stop hovering and crowding her. Let her come to you.
Jesus, Derek, that's my whole point. You think all of this is me judging you and it's not. None of this has been about my judgment of you.
