Josef sighed as he walked. What was the best way to do all of this? He wouldn’t tell her that they were sort of, kind of together. That had the potential to break her brain. No, he’d take it slow with her. He’d break basic information to her first and go from there.
“Your name is Veronica Mars. You’re eighteen years old. You’re originally from Neptune, California. You...” Josef paused as he thought his words over for a moment. “You’re not here intentionally, but you have a place. That’s where we’re headed right now.”
As they walked up to the apartment complex, Josef held the lobby door open for her. “You probably have a set of keys somewhere on you for your apartment.” He led the way to the elevator, again holding the doors open for her. Once they were both inside the car, he pressed the button for her floor having had it committed to memory. Josef hoped she was okay with him sticking around for a while because there was no way he’d leave her alone when she was this vulnerable.
