Melissa McCall wins Mother of the Year every year. (alphamom) wrote in nemetonlog,
Scott's clinging to her broke her heart even more than hearing his words had, if that was even possible. The worst part is that he's right. It isn't okay and it won't be, but she wanted so badly for it to be that she couldn't help saying it.
Melissa held him closer and stroked his hair, pressing her lips to the side of his face, holding them there, wishing that she could take away his pain and fear and knowing that there was nothing she could do, not even as his mother, to help mend it at all. "We're gonna be strong and you're going to beat this and it's never gonna happen again. We'll figure it out, we always do." And saying that was the last of what she had in her arsenal. There was no How To guide for when your child suffered such a loss of control that they took someone else's life. Melissa had no idea how to address or even begin to help her son through something like this, but she sure as hell wasn't going to give up without trying her ass off.
