Who: Meaghan McCormack, Scrimmy Scrimgeour, Florinda McGonagall
What: Possibly a bad idea, or maybe a really good one?
When: Sunday 25 February 2000
Where: The Cattery
Warnings: Pretty tame, barely even swearing!

Florrie hadn't originally intended to start watching Joy's soaps on the regular, but over time she'd come to value the break of spending an evening a week catching up with the fictional characters on the telly, some of whom were living lives almost as ridiculous as the troubles Montrose and Portree were going through. And she was learning quite a bit about how Muggles did things, not so much from the plot points as from watching them do things in their homes while they nattered on about their romances.

As the theme music indicating the end of the show started--a thing it had taken Florrie a while to figure out, the music cues--Florrie started to get up, careful not to trip over Meaghan and Scrimmy who were settled around her on the sofa. "Anything I can fetch either of you from the kitchen?"

Meaghan stretched her arms up and to the side to avoid Florrie, extending it until she was draped over the arm of the sofa. "Beeeeeer?" she yawned hopefully, and grinned up sideways at her. It being Florrie, she was more like to come back with a glass of water, but at least she probably wouldn't hand her a plate of broccoli when she'd asked for a drink.

Though she might come back with juice or some shit. Urgh. What was this, breakfast? Drinks weren't supposed to taste fruity after noon, well-known fact.

Scrimmy shook her head as she pulled her legs out of Florrie's way, even if they were too short to really be that much of an obstacle. "Hafta apparate home, got stuff ta finish." Mostly stupid chores because they had training tomorrow and well...you shouldn't reuse sweaty training stuff.

"I can get you something non-alcoholic." Florrie didn't glare or roll her eyes at Meaghan, because that was part of being a good housemate. She was too polite to inquire what Scrimmy had left to do, but lingered in case Scrimmy wanted a glass of water or some such before she left.

Meaghan had no such qualms. "What you gotta do?" she said without looking at Scrimmy -- she was too busy sliding in an unconcerned somersaultish motion the rest of the way over the sofa. "They feed us mostly and washin' only takes a mo' with magic."

Scrimmy watched Meaghan roll across the sofa and gave her a nudge in the right direction with her foot. "Not if ye let it pile up. So unless ye want ta smell me from across the locker room...Plus Da was away with his mates on some big broom trip an' is comin' back tomorrow an' uh...place may not be how he left it." That was all mainly due to Joy's absence and the mood she'd been left in after it. She'd been too bummed out or spending time at the Cattery to do something about it since. Sometimes it was just easier to avoid things that were bothering you until you absolutely had to.

Florrie was very much a 'clean up the place as you make a mess' kind of housemate, so that never happened to her, but of course she was hardly going to say a word to Scrimmy when the girl was obviously grieving the loss of Joy. As were they all, really, even Florrie, who hadn't been her teammate. "It's too bad you didn't bring it with; we'd've made short work of it before we watched soaps and charmed it dry for you to take home with you."

"Yeah might as well, practically live here anyways," Meaghan said without thinking. "Sure you don't want somethin' for the road then?" she added, heading for the kitchen. If Florrie didn't want to get a beer, she'd get it herself. That's what legs and magic were for.

"I guess. 'Cept I don't and it's weird ta bring yer washing to a mate's house ye know?" Scrimmy had been spending a lot of time around here, which was perhaps why she had so many chores piled up at home. "But yer place does have the tv thing so that makes it better. Company's alright too." She grinned a little at Meaghan, just teasing. "Uh yeah, road works! Even if it's not a long one."

"We're all used to girls' things hanging dry or getting a drying charm here," Florrie said, because it was true. "We could put it up in the spare room." Which had been Joy's, but she wasn't going to point that out, since it was half of why Scrimmy was spending so much time here. "We could put you in the spare room, and it'd save you a lot of time and trouble, since you're here so often."

"What?" Meaghan called from the kitchen, and a moment later emerged with two beers (having decided that magic was all well and good, but sometimes you'd been sittin' for ages and had muscles to stretch). "What's savin' trouble then?" she asked, passing one to Scrimmy. "We can't get a elf, my brother's 'lergic."

Scrimmy blinked, a little taken aback, mostly because it was the sort of suggestion she’d have expected from Meaghan’s mouth. Somehow the responsible Adult of the house saying it felt more legit and it threw her. “Yer not going ta use it fer anything else?” She asked Florrie before turning to Meaghan to take the offered beer. “I’m small but not elf small!”

"I'm not, really, other than maybe hanging out some things to dry. But I'd rather have you," Florrie said loyally. "Meaghan, how do you think your mum would feel if Scrimmy wanted to move in and take the empty room?"

It wouldn't be the same as having Joy, of course, but it would be better than an empty room reminding Meaghan and Florrie both that Joy was no longer with them.

The knut dropped (and so did her beer, almost), and Meaghan's face transformed from I'm-missing-something-here frown to lumos maxima smile. "She'd love it," she said, simply, positively and enthusiastically, like it was the best idea she'd ever heard, at least for a week and maybe forever.

"Come and look then!" she added, grabbing Scrimmy's arm to pull her upstairs. "It's all pink an' that's shit acourse but quick enough to fix."

Scrimmy's smile widened and took on a quality of goofy disbelief as she let Meaghan drag her up the stairs to show off Joy's room (as if she didn't already know what it looked like). On the way up she looked over her shoulder at Florrie, that silly smile still plastered on. It wasn't a verbal yes just yet but it was pretty clear what her answer was.

Definitely!
