The Pink Bloc?

The Wasps are no Kestrels, they're not as heavily steeped in muggleborn culture and relations, but they do have a indelible stain in their records from the war that all the war season players still remember. It's That Match against the Harpies in the 97 season, which saw snatchers take the field and drag away a fighting Withey to the horror of the teams and the crowd. And it's That Match that Withey ends up having to cite when she stands up during the team meeting after the Kestrels match to request the team help make this a Pink Bloc. Some on the team, like Ajax and Fofana who each dove at multiple snatchers for her, are on board. But the newer members and the new manager are hesitant and it takes reminding them of the Harpies match for them to feel guilty enough to give her this pink match.

It's a hollow victory for Dawn, but one she'll take becuase fuck it, it's about visibility of support. And getting to fly with flashes of neon pink everywhere feels good.

When the Wasps fly out today it's clear at least they're committing to this match. The black stripes on their robes are now pink, with players picking their own extra accessories. Dawn has her pink gloves, bat, and streak in her hair, and Ajax her beater partner is sporting the same today (yes down to the pink hair streak). Every time they touch gloves this match after some successful interference, it can be seen from the stands. Fofana ups the ante with her pink goggles too.

The game itself is...well a bad Chudley game. With the Wasps experimenting with new plays and the Cannons fumbling and making no real headway in the nearly 6 hours. Dawn and Ajax play a clean game of interference (Dawn, the beater with the 2nd most fouls in the league, purposefully avoids making any. Nobody is going to disparage the pink bloc because of her today), and help create an absolute wall that Chudley spend the whole match struggling against. 2 goals in nearly 6h is bad even for the Cannons.

At the end of it she doesn't give any interviews, but just butts in to answer one question:

"With the Kestrels and now the Wasps sporting the colours, does this mean this is going to be a Pink Bloc?"

"You bloody well bet it's going to be!"

Chidera showed up, hopefully with the same posse, in her bright pink dress, this time her dreadlocks curled into a Marie-Antoinette beehive on her head with pink flower in it.

After the match Dawn can see her in the stands all the way from the pitch and laughs before she uses sonorus to yell out: "WAY TO SET THE STANDARD OKEKE!"

Mary is absolutely delighted by this look and makes a point of telling Chidera so (and Rachael agrees).

Pink and Chips

Dawn and Jason disappear after the match for some anger management and return later in the night, where they rally their immediate pink posse (Ajax and Fofana are there too) for a late night drunk chip run. There might be more than a few odd looks at the group of people in various neon pink gear and costumes all crammed into a booth sharing a pile of chips, but this is how movements are fueled. Big ideals, a memorable image, just enough alcohol, and fighting over chips.

Jason would have totally sprung for some fish and even mushy peas (in addition to all those chips!). Still, he is a savage when it comes to calories, he will totally fight over the last chip. By this point, he is less angry, still a little drunk, but up for having a good time with his peers.

Rachael grins and boogies her way into her seat, hair bouncing lightly as she slides into a free space next to [VOLUNTEER?]. "Thanks. We decided to add a different touch of pop culture to proceedings," she adds, helping herself to a chip as she seated herself.

"Well, whatever you got up to after the match, I'm glad you heard the call for chips!" Jason pushed a basket closer to Rachael.

"I'm really digging on some of the bold statements here. Feels like I have to up my game"

"We went to the pub, of course!" the younger woman grinned, taking another chip. "Fun times after a match is done."

"I quite like how everyone's putting their own spin on things," she mused, looking around at her fellow muggleborns seated around the table.

"I guess it's like one big metaphor anyway," Rachael mused, nibbling the chip she was holding. "Look at us all. We're all a pretty big spread of people, yeah? But the pink's one thing we've all got in common. It might not be visual, but it's clear we all have the desire to stand up to injustice as something in common too, yeah?"

Normally one to be sticking to a strict food plan. Especially in the build up to the broom race, has clearly thrown that to the wind tonight. “Come on, Okeke, live a little. One chip won’t ruin the world.”

Oliver, Monte, and Hamish show up at the match very specifically not in full pink regalia. They are very specifically doing the celebrity incognito thing, complete with hats and sunglasses, because this match is supposed to be a break from all of the insanity, and they don't want the attention. They are, however, each sporting one of the official pink pins, such as any non-attention-seeking fan who supports the movement might wear.

They leave immediately after the match along with the rest of the throng of fans, one of them looking rather grumpy, and the other two laughing merrily as they head to the pub.

The Wasps are another of Desmond's old teams, and Withey has been an outspoken member of Uplift since before it was Uplift. Des goes to see (what will happen) and be seen (during his hopefully final days in the job, he hardly wants to be accused of shirking).

Since this is a (blessedly) shorter match, he's there for the entirety. The Cannons are an embarrassment.
