Sam had closed his computer up and grabbed the box of chocolates he'd bought earlier in the day. It had been on special at Red Stripe, left over from Valentine's Day, and the last one there. He was just vaguely glad it hadn't been heart shaped. That would just be weird. And of course he'd taken the ribbon off it when he'd first got it home. So now it was just a normal box of chocolates. But red.
Whatever. He'd done his best to avoid the whole holiday. Time was, he'd have forgotten it easily, and caught mild (teasing) hell at home for it. Now he couldn't erase the day from his consciousness if he tried. Especially here in America. It seemed the adverts for cards and jewelry and sweets had been everywhere. He was just pleased it was over now. The chocolates he'd bought certainly didn't count. Not several days later.
He made sure he had his key, then left his flat, taking the stairs up to the next floor. He knocked lightly, not wishing to disturb the neighbours at this late hour. He didn't hear any music coming from behind the door, so he assumed Jesse could hear him. He shifted on his feet as he waited, one hnad stretching out to run a finger down the door frame.
